We'd like to introduce you all to this tiny but very special little girl named Crispy, or Parmesan Crisp, the 9 month old Golden Retriever puppy who we have adopted into our family here at the farm.
Crispy has only been at the farm a little while now. She has been in the life saving care of a very very special rescue called Life of Pikelet.
Life of Pikelet, specialises in neo natal care for puppies that have congenital birth defects. Crispy has a full cleft on her hard and soft palate and is stunted in growth. She has been cleared for a liver shunt but will continue to be monitored throughout her life. She has truly fought to be alive, and came very close to not surviving at 7 weeks old, if it wasn't for the 24/7 intensive care from a very devoted Calley at the rescue.
We are very fortunate to have Crispy in our life. Thank you Calley.
Life of Pikelet rescue struggles with adoption interest and finances and I'd really like to take this opportunity to shine a little light on them and the very important work they do. I have to be honest, this work is not for the faint hearted, many of the pups do not survive, about only 1 in 4. Crispy came into care with 4 other pups that sadly did not make it and Calley fought very hard to keep Crispy from passing too. As I write this I am thinking of Calley, who is presently mourning the loss of another very special pup named Noodles. And every day she fights so hard with everything she has against these terrible odds.
