+michael ob IIRC he could phisically do it for most of the show's run but had mental barriers that stopped him from being full Superman, as it would mean being full alien.

+Dennis Bowers yeah but she grew up with stories of what the yellow sun does, clark had no clue he could fly until the Jor'El sent the brainwashed clark on a mission

+FPSBadassx -- That's true. Supergirl did have her cousin as an example on the Supergirl TV show. Superman did have to figure it out on his own. So I guess I should give him a break.

What you gonna do? Every show does that. Besides, Smallville actually took an approach no one did. You have to try things in order for it to work. We crap on hero shows like Batman Forever etc, but they all paved the way for the kind of Superhero movies we get now, Smallville did that too, especially on the DC tv Universe etc.

Some things had to do with what the company had rights over at the time, and the contracts made too. Also, I think Tom Welling had a stipulation of “no tights, no flights” in his contract. It wasn’t necessarily that they just waited so late for the story. Plus he did fly in season 4 or 5 I think, when he had the red kryptonjte.
