100 Hour review of this Smart Carb 2 I first had on a 2021 Beta 300RR for around 80 hours of riding before I moved it over to this 2022 Sherco 300 SE Factory for the other 20+ hours. In Summary even just the hand control adjustments and extra fuel economy are reason enough for me to recommend the SC2.

I put the SC2 on my 2018 X-Trainer for very similar reasons....So far so good. Love the easy of use, install was pretty simple. Great support from the manufacture when I called with a couple questions. Thanks for posting!

With the Beta you prob didn’t need to trim the air boot either, nice and easy.

SmoMoto, I’ve got the exact same bike as you with a Smartcarb. We’ve private messaged back and forth a few times to share info, thanks for that. Like you, I was surprised and initially concerned on how many clicks I had to lean out my bike from baseline to get it to run decent. Baseline was 75 clicks, and I’m not exactly sure where I’m at now but it’s 120 clicks +/- 5. It takes a lot of starts and stops and a couple of fouled spark plugs to get from 75 clicks to 120 clicks when your only adjusting 3 clicks at a time. It was running really good there, but I was still getting the slight gurgle at very low speed and a lot of spoog. I was running Amsoil Dominator oil, and my dealer recommended I switch to Motul 710 because it burns a much cleaner when your spending most your time at 1/4 throttle or less. I made the switch and even drained my fuel tank and the carb to make sure I was mixing the oils. I was very surprised at the immediate difference. My bike was now running noticeably leaner and cleaner. I turned my idle screw back close to baseline and still had to turn the clicker richer by 6 clicks to get the idle consistent and not lean bog when I quickly blipped the throttle. Most importantly, the low speed gurgle has completely disappeared. My Sherco now runs as clean as my 21 Husky with the two stroke performance tune and head did, and that was the cleanest running two stroke I’ve ever been on. You may want to try a tank of Motul 710 and see if it cleans up your bottom end. It made a big difference for me in the way my bike runs.

Nice to hear of some similar experiences to know your not crazy. Yes I am starting to feel like I actually need maybe 2 more clicks leaner. As the weather has warmed it seems to be just a tad rich. Then as to the oil, yah maybe I switch it up.

I’m still mixing at 50:1. Another guy I’ve communicated with who has a sherco says that Smartcarb recommended he mix at 60:1. An update to the information I provided above. I went on a ride and a couple days ago and found that my bike wasn’t running leaner on Motul than Amsoil, it was the same. However, I do believe that the Motol burns somewhat cleaner, not night and day difference but cleaner. The stutter/gurgle that is so common in the just above idle - 1/8 throttle on the Sherco’s is gone. I’d say my bike is dialed from a seat of the pants perspective, but I ran for several minutes with 1/8 throttle or less and pulled my spark plug and it was still very dark brown to black. It looked better than it ever had, but still indicated rich at very low throttle. I found an interesting document on a google search call “The unofficial Smartcarb tuning guide” that describes a idle die-off test to tell if your Smartcarb mixture is correct at idle. I’m going to try that next ride. My guess is it will show I’m still a little rich. That document has some interesting info and is an worthwhile read. Another thing I found that I think helps is switching to an iridium spark plug. BR7EIX is the replacement plug. Seems to start and idle better with that plug.

How many clicks are you off the setting smart carb told you to have it at. My beta 300 here in Iowa they had me at 72. I’m at 85 now. Think I could go more even but called them and they said not to go more.
@thesmoness
@thesmoness 2 жыл бұрын
A lot - I think they called for something in the 80’s and I am 118. I feel it could go a couple more to around 120. Seems others commenting are also in that range as well. For some reason they seem to offer a poor stock setting for sherco

@@thesmoness my bike seems real rich on the bottom and very lean on the top. If I take my bike down the long road fifth gear six gear cruising for a couple miles I can smell the silencer very hot. I just did a 45 mile loop today 50 inch trail going pretty good speed but I’m about a c-b class rider and about 5 miles from the end of it I hit reserve.

How do you like the Sherco 300 compared to the Beta 300? Could you please comment on the differences in the motor characteristics, suspension & handling. Much appreciated. Thanks
@thesmoness
@thesmoness 2 жыл бұрын
The sherco has more bottom end but the beta more top end. For my style riding the low end is a lot more used. The beta was a good solid bike in that it’s very kind I feel. No real comparison on suspension as the sherco factory has the closed cartridge KYB which is a lot better. If you did a lot more open fast cross country I’d get the beta - any kind of technical trail riding I’d go sherco

They claim 30% and they might be right. I think folks can easily count on 100km tanks on SC2 - some maybe even claim 120. Depends on weight of rider and diff if ride of course but I think 100km is pretty safe bet

Shercos do get that garbly sound when it’s just on the verge of the power band. BUT I was starting to lean towards it being a bit Rich as well. I may need to try a couple more clicks to 120.
