Appreciate the Mr. Socky mug for sure! I have a lot of hodgepodge going on in the house as I renovate (Lutron light switches, several wifi outlets, a Flume, solar with a Sense appliance, Nest, Unifi mesh wifi, an Aqara hub.... the list goes on). I have either a dedicated server which I can use to virtualize home assistant or a couple of pi's to host it. Basically I have gone whole hog on a ton of different options but haven't gotten around to actually making it more seamless and usable so looking forward to what you have to offer on this side of the channel!

Privacy. There are data breaches and companies getting caught getting more data than they should, eufy being the latest. Am tired of wondering if the thing I am going to buy is going to let the world into my house and personal life.

Yes, I am going to be using some Meross light strips (WiFI 2.4G) that will be activated on my stairs by 2 thirdreality motion detectors (Zigbee, connected to Echo 4th Gen on one end and Echo show 10 on the other end). Do you see any issues getting all of this to work in the Alexa app/environment?

That gives us all a little more hope for when we say, "Honey, I'd really like to get this___________ because Reed said it was a great product." My wife has said yes to so many things I never asked her about as well.... so that works too....

Watched both of your new drops and love em. The behind the scenes is great as it shares what it takes for these videos to look so good. And the deep dive into HA and customizing is very helpful. I too would love to see a deeper dive in NAS systems and how to better use them in my smart home. Thank you

Firstly, congrats!! As for an idea that I think will fit nicely with the theme of this channel, is: Life/work automation - ie. calender, email, event, meeting, reminder, etc. automations.

Please do more videos about the peg board contents, and a deeper dive into the software and hardware for filming/editing. Im trying to do other things for work, but am starting up in my spare time, a youtube channel. Ive got some older videos when i was first learning, accidently spread into 2 channels. Then i have some tutorials made for teaching, and some other videos. About 48. I want to get better, without caring about being pro now. Find me by my name. No im not the criminal that comes up, i was one of the top channels, last i looked though.

Awesome setup, thanks for sharing Reed! I upgraded to the Sony a7s IV this year and I LOVE it. I'm in the process of redoing my whole studio, so I enjoyed seeing your setup. Very inspirational. P.S. I noticed the Aqara cube on your desk. You running any desk automations with that? I recently added the new one to my desk and set it up run homekit scenes, control music on HomePods, and even run shortcuts on my Mac for things like my live streaming setup. Pretty neat little device for the desk.

Thanks Shane! Yeah Sony cameras are the best. When you finish redoing your studio make a video because I love to see it. Yes I have the Aqara cube changing the color of the cube light next to it 🤣 but I need to utilize it more. It's connected to my Home Assistant setup with like 32 different actions so I need to do more stuff like you're doing.

I know your a big fan of Home Assistant. I’m currently using SmartThings & thinking of converting to HA. Have you ever thought of showing how to convert from one system to another? Hey Reed, sweet setup. I really enjoy your videos and look forward to seeing more on your new channel. One thing you didn't mention in your tour is how you store your data. Do you use individual drives, or do you use a NAS? I've been experimenting with a DIY NAS with some older equipment and so far, I'm liking Open Media Vault so far. I also have an old Drobo FS NAS which still does the job, but is getting a bit long in the tooth. BTW, congrats on the new addition to your home. I'll bet you have some interesting ways to monitor and sooth the baby when she gets cranky. Good luck.

Thanks! Yes I use a Synology NAS. It's something I definitely would like to talk about more. Doing a DIY NAS would be a fun project but I just needed something quick and easy. I use some portable Samsung SSD but just for a few things here and there.

Dumb question, but Im planning on moving to the Chandler/Gilbert area in a few years. My friend that lives in Gilbert always has intermittent internet issues. Do you see any of that, and what do you do to minimize the downtime? I heard that Google Fiber will be coming to Mesa soon, but I was told to not move there.

We lived in Mesa for a few years and now live further south east. Our internet has been CenturyLink for both homes, and we haven't had any issues! We actually have fiber out here and it's been amazing. Cox isn't as reliable from the people I know that have it and if that's what your friend has that would make sense.

Hey Reed! Since you're a HA user.. How do your Govee lights work with HA? Looks like it's cloud only, but they've got a lot of nice options. I'm afraid to buy in though in case they become useless if Govee were to go under. Thoughts?

Actually I've only used ZigBee buttons. I use the amzn.to/3OULUxY that has both ZigBee and Z-Wave so you have the option.

Haha I have a cordless vacuum and that keeps things under control. No I haven't added it all up, I started to see how much I spent when I was adding the links and I almost don't want to know the actual total! 🤣 But a lot of it has been bought over the 5 or 6 years of making KZfaq videos.
