Don't Get Hurt! Always, always climb in and out, on and off the truck or bus. D.O.T. Inspection CHECKLIST: www.smartdrivetest.com/landin... SUBSCRIBE TODAY! ► / smartdrivetest
Always use 3 points of contact when climbing on or off the vehicle - watch the video.
People most often get hurt when they fall down, not up.
Thus, always use 3 points of contact when climbing into or out of the cab - 2 hand and 1 foot; or 2 feet and 1 hand.
Also, climb on the trailer and climb on the back of the truck.
When stepping down off or out of the vehicle, ensure that you have a firm grasp on the grasp handle or the steering wheel.
If you are going for a job interview and jump off the vehicle it is unlikely that you will be hired because you are a safety risk.
Employers are thinking that you will be injured and off work on Workers' Compensation.
Good luck on your road test.

I'm 5'2" inches so it's a lot more of a climb. Yes I have fallen on my arse a few times...lol! Worse one was in the front of the line at a rice mill...about 25 drivers saw me land on my elbows and butt! EMBARRASSING! I laughed and dusted myself off, they all asked if I was ok...even more embraced...and I told them my elbows were skinned up and probably got a bruise on my butt and my pride...lol! Always keep your hands free of things, put them on your seat as you are exiting, then after your feet are on the ground, reach up and retrieve. Never think about anything else when you are climbing out or in!

Thanks Ladonna - that's an excellent point about carrying items up and down out of the truck - I hadn't thought about that. Now that you mention that point, I will probably have to do a supplemental video. Thanks again for all your awesome feedback and I'm glad to hear that you didn't get hurt falling out of the truck. All the best Cheers Rick

You work in muddy conditions you step on the first step bang your other foot against the step knock the mud off step your clean foot on the second step knock off the mud on your other foot. Never get in a truck with mud on your boots it will cause them to slip off the clutch brake throttle pedals. Yes I have lost my grip and I'm hanging off one arm it hurts like hell.

Hi Graveltrucking - yes, it only takes one time and drivers are a lot more careful. I believe that next to back into stuff, drivers falling out of or off trucks and trailers in the biggest challenge for safety officers. Cheers Rick

So, it looks like I would be always going backward to get out? Do you know if this is the same for an Amazon vans? Ironically, I always pivot when I get out of a car kind of like you see old people do, maybe because there hips are back, or something. Maybe you can’t do this with higher vehicles.

Hi Diane Wheeler - excellent point my friend. Most trucks will have a "oh crap" handle right there at the front of the door hanging off the "A" pillar between the windshield and the door. All the best, Cheers Rick

Rick, Sooo close... 3 points needs to apply to the last step as well. Plant both feet before you let go with your hands. A lot of drivers roll their ankles due to uneven or loose surfaces... otherwise good and practical.

Hi Ken Waegerle - Thank you for your comment. And you are correct - often the ground can cause falls too. Always keep a tight grip. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
