When I was splitting big oak rounds it was easier up me to use wedges or a dou ble bit axe than using a slotting maul

A trick that I got from a different channel is using a piece of wood as a wedge. When you axe or maul get stuck insert in to keep the crack open. When you have a odd shape round used a piece of wood to balance it out. 🪓🪓🪓

Cut your rings inside a lorry tyre, with the inner walls removed, stack them tightly, using a solid concrete base, using the fiskers isocore splitting maul, great tool,🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪

Your "Neanderthal" splitter is known officially as a monster maul. Still have one but don't use it, too heavy. I use the fiskars x27 with better results

Sometimes a round just isn't worth the effort... move on to one that will cooperate. BTW, steel toe boots are probably a good idea with falling logs and flying wedges.

Be careful with those wedges , if it's planted in a piece of wood , stand off on an angle when you go to hit it cuz If you got that top edge corner and it flips out , it coming right for your knee caps Happened to me twice , Thankfully Jesus protected me and I only got hit with the blunt end , left a Massive bruise though

I realize this video is 4 years old, but you must have discovered "diamond" wedges by now. They make traditional wedges look ridiculous. I just started using wedges and I couldn't get anywhere with a "traditional" one.

I don't know man... Doesn't look so smart or clever to me, Exerting much too much effort with all those different tools. The most important thing I seen was the logs are way too long. If they were half that long, you could have split them much easier...let the tools do the work!!! The chain saw to cut logs to the proper manageable length and your yellow maul to split them.. of course all tools must be properly sharpened..
