In Soviet Russia they poison the batteries *UPDATE* I knew all along they were Ukrainian, but for the overused joke's sake I said such, and technically they're slavs so you get my point, just clarifying coz in this days I bet the last thing an ukrainian wants is to be confused with a Russian

I remember as a kid, I used to take apart nicd battery packs from rc cars to look at the cells, and I had this one rc airplane that had a lithium ion battery and I thought it was the same. So when I took it apart I was only given a shock and after that I stopped taking apart any battery pack that was "squishy". Now that I look back at it, kinda glad I was only shocked because I realize I could've burned everything!

Discharge the batteries thoroughly before disassembly will be much safer (but it won't burn and it's less excited). The lithium intercalated graphite anode is still extremely reactive towards water, similar to lithium metal. The electrolyte commonly used is LiPF6 and would hydrolyze into HF. The binder is PVDF and would possibly release HF after combustion. The amount isn't too much so it's not too dangerous. Rest of the materials including the stinky organic carbonate solvents aren't so toxic. It's still OK to touch but not recommended .

@Bandicoot803
@Bandicoot803 4 жыл бұрын
@untitled. The main reasons for the high-amp charging hype are as follows: #1: The well-known impatience known to mankind! #2: Heat up the battery to artificially age it at a point where it can no longer do as soon as the 2-year-warranty is over. Remember the SAMSUNG Note 9? No longer allowed on aircrafts, decreed by the FAA!

I replaced an iphone battery for a friend of mine. Then I told him we had to make the old one safe for disposal. He wasn't sure what I meant. I said, "we need to stab the old battery". He said, "Well I have this letter opener.." I said, "Perfect" and set the battery outside on a concrete sidewalk and stabbed it with the letter opener. At first, nothing happened, all you could see was a red glow around the area where the letter opener pierced the battery. Then I pulled the letter opener out of the battery and that's when it burst into flames. Then I said, "Now you see what I mean about making it safe for disposal. Wouldn't want to make a trash truck catch fire!"

Well, some countries don't give a shit about the environment. Take the US for example. It's very common just to throw everything in the trash regardless of what it is and then dump it as landfill. Here in Denmark, WE CARE. We have separate containers for recyclable material such as glass, metals etc. Also, there is a special container for the material shown in the video and lightbulbs, neon tubes etc. The local recycling department will also take things like motor oil, chemicals, and very dangerous substances, for free.

Exactly.. The fact that at any point doing all these crazy dangerous experiments may blow off a finger, hand, limb or loss of life gives them a massive Adrenalin rush and that is what drives them. But that doesn't mean that they lack respect for themselves, they do exercise a level of safety that's unseen until something goes wrong. Also these experiments and video's would be boring if they had to make everything safe, gloves, lab coat, face mask, eye protection, safety boots, testing lab, etc etc blah blah.. Them NOT doing all the safety crap makes watching this quite entertaining and puts you on the edge of your seat as you keep wondering if they gonna have an accident, lol

What a shame my Huwaei T8 battery burst in flame just now when trying to replace it! I think I punctured it in the process of removing it from the adhesive surface and it melted the tablet casing. Oh well, caused more damage than repair. This is the first time it happened to me. I've been replacing phone and tablet batteries since Li-Ion has been the norm for gadgets. Huwaei battery is the worst. I must admit though that this video got me hooked. Good Li-ion battery dissection of what they looked like inside those metal casing.
