You are 100% correct about that last part. The fact they decided to roll back those changes right now does not mean they will not be implemented. They WILL definitely be implemented, they will just do it more sneakily and gradually until they arrive at the same point. That's how it's always done.

Funny enough, what bugs me the most about this is the fee they’ll charge if you don’t sign on to the new terms. It’s small (like $25 or something), but if they’re changing the terms, the other side should have the ability to accept or decline without punishment. Like imagine if you hire someone to build something and they outright decide to build something else, and then threaten to charge you if you don’t agree to the new plan.

Imo they do more damage to themselves by trying to enforce greedy policies like these. Idk if it is subjective but I have the feeling that streaming on KZfaq has become more popular as of recently. Chances are that those who are affected most by these changes would just switch platforms. This includes the Smash Community and their events.

I think Ludwig is right in regards to this change, they're just implementing it now so they can target very specific groups of people/companies in case they ever somehow exploit a loophole which would begin stealing traffic and adsense away from Twitch. KZfaq has the same wording in their TOS but youtubers still get sponsors and put full on video ads in their videos all the time without KZfaq punishing them. Very sus of them to publicly fold just to lowkey put it in the new TOS though and force partners to agree to it, Twitch also doesn't have the best track record of consistent enforcement either so whether they'll play it the same as KZfaq or not we have no idea..

The fact that Twitch has effectively shown their hand means almost every content creator, not just the ones in the Smashsphere, are likely going to be looking for practically any other platform. If Google is watching, revisiting and updating KZfaq's streaming accessibility and tools might be an insanely smart decision with the future of Twitch so uncertain.

My biggest fear right now is that, since KZfaq and Twitch are the only viable platforms to stream on, the only way to rebel against one making an ass change is to support the other greedy corporation. There's currently nothing stopping them from just trading the creators back and forth through progressively shittier changes to each other's websites, and only stopping once one has gotten so bad that even the most popular creators cannot support themselves and one or both platforms implode. I feel like we've already seen it start to play out over these last couple years, so I really hope we get some rising star in the coming years that steals all their users by providing a halfway decent service to users and creators.

I think the solution is pretty obvious: long-term, the Smash community simply needs to decouple itself from Twitch (as well as possibly even KZfaq) and take a chance on Rumble or Kick. This would be the time to do it. They can establish a foothold on these communities before they blow up and it gets harder to negotiate good deals. Twitch is an incredibly toxic platform for so many reasons, and I think gamers are finally getting fed up with it. Although the Smash has many problems, this is something they should all be able to agree on.

Im not a streamer but just the fact that Twitch would roll out a change like that, ignore the livelihood of people that keep their platform running, and only undo their change after the backlash says a lot. I feel like this is a path all free to use soc med platforms end up in. They start and have rules that are fine, as the content creators grow, the site grows and both make money. At some point the site isnt growing anymore because doubling 20 people is easy, doubling 2,000,000 is a lot harder, so they cut revenue to try to boost own profits. And then they keep squeezing until creators need outside sponsors, and then the stupid ass platform makes other new rules and things start going downhill.
