This a tutorial for Smash Ultimate and how to improve movement. This movement tutorial will teach you everything you need practice in order to better your control over characters in Smash Ultimate. This guide covers short hops, foxtrots, dash dancing, short hop aerials and short hop aerials out of dash. I'll be also making general guides along with character guides on this channel.

This is handily one of the best videos for Ultimate available right now for players who understand what "nair" means and get some of the basic gameplay elements but don't understand the difference between their play and what they see pros doing. I feel like a lot of pro content creators get really bogged down in jargon that doesn't make any sense to casual players, but this was incredibly comprehensive while still being easy to understand. It actually made me seriously consider shelling out a few bucks for coaching. Seriously, I'd love to see more content like this. The controller cam was a great idea, too.

Been 4 months, but just wanted to tell you there's plenty of smash jargon guides, notably BananaBoy's.
@Stathio
@Stathio 5 жыл бұрын
I 100% agree with you- the jargon kills most people's motivation to improve- it just sounds like unnecessarily confusing nonsense unless you already know what it means, and even then it's hardly worth the time saved saying it. While in actuality? All of this jargon-ified stuff is actually really simple and accessible to do when it's said in English. Like, we're learning how to play a game competitively- we shouldn't have to be basically learning a mini language on top of that. So yeah- guides like this which just explain things clearly instead of assuming understanding of slang terminology are really appreciated. After all- if we already knew all of these terms, we'd hardly need a guide in the first place, would we?

I use pro controller... I don’t see a lot of guides that use the pro controller, and I’m pretty new to the game the gamecube controller isn’t something I’m familiar with, but here’s how I consistently short hop! So basically when you set two buttons to jump, and press the two buttons/trigger at the same time, you short hop! I main Cloud, so my neutral is just... ✨AERIAL✨ and I wanted to get better, so I watched a cloud main who I consider the best in the world, “Sparg0” he short hop -> bairs a LOT! So what I’m comfortable with is setting the buttons “X” and “Y” to jump and just pressing them at the same time, then back airing Hopefully this helps for my fellow Pro controller kings/queens 😎

After learning the tech in melee... It's not about how hard you press things or how fast you flick the controls, it's all about execution and timing. Whenever you feel like your hands are getting tired, take a break and try to assess which actions make your hand tired in that way, and try to minimize the stress on your hand with those actions. Hope this helps!

Be relaxed when gripping and you'll be fine. Melee people only complain about hurt hands because execution is absurd. Imagine for every tech he demonstrates there's an equivalent that needs 1-3 more inputs depending on what character you use (spacies are much more tech heavy).

Short Hop - 30 times Short Hop -> Fast Fall - 30 times Short Hop -> Falling attack & Rising attack - 50 times each (optional, do it if your main's combos require it) Short Hop -> Fast Falling -> Falling attack & Rising attack - 50 times each Short Hop -> Fast Fall whilst moving - 30 times. Short Hop -> Falling attack & Rising attack moving - 50 times each (also optional) Short Hop - Fast Fall -> Falling attack & Rising attack while moving - 50 times each if you can't do them in a row, just do it x100 the original amount. ex 30 times in a row -> 300 times total Something I found useful is to treat this like you would any other muscle. You don't want to get stuck at short hops and call it a day. Work on trying to do all of these techniques. He never said to do one. Do them all to the best of your ability. Its like how when you can't do a pull up, you don't just try to do one pull up a day and give up. You work out other parts of your arms where you are lacking and eventually you get better not only in other parts, but in the pull ups you were trying to get stronger at. Sorry if its hard to understand, just know that you need to work on all of the exercises to get better at short hops in general.

You just have to be more consistent, it isn't the controller. My advice is to try performing it more slowly so that you can be more consistent. Then speed up as you get more comfortable. If you try and go too fast you're more likely to mess up. Honestly it's just practice and this stuff isn't easy.

shield isn't the best option in this game in general, it's often better to throw a fast retreating aerial than to shield when you feel pressured, you jump out and attack or use a fast special when opponent whiffs on your shield to punish, or jump back out of shield to reposition when your op can't punish it/you read they're running in for grab

@@sb33doeznugget32 if anything it seems joycons have cases where they're more responsive than gcc with adapter , inputs all around are different to smash 4, there's some carry over but everyone needs to learn how to move in the new engine, even the pros have been flubbing some things due to unhelpful muscle memory + changes to how & when inputs register

@benjoleo

I really struggle to short hop in this game. I had no problem in smash 4. And it seems harder with certain characters like falco.
@CaptainDCap
@CaptainDCap 5 жыл бұрын
This is because a short hop requires you to let go of the jump button before the 'Jumpsquat' ends, which is the frames while your character is squatting before the jump. In Ultimate, all jumpsquats have been buffed to finish after 3 frames, meaning the window for a short hop has been made really tight.

Lanier Pasha But you don't always want to attack with your short hop or sometimes it's better to delay your short hop aerial so you can hit shorter characters or hit just the first hit of a multihit move. It's necessary to learn short hopping by itself.

@@LeeJayBird21 I don't think it is true the GC controller has less input delay than Pro Controller. There have been a lot of mixed results in videos, but I haven't seen someone test wired Pro Controller vs GC Controller while the Wired only Pro Controller setting in the Switch menu is turned on. I have heard multiple reports of the GC controller actually having more delay than the Pro Controller, even when Pro is wireless.
@eugenides04
@eugenides04 5 жыл бұрын
@@LeeJayBird21 The actual only two potential advantages the GC controller has are the octagonally gated analogues (makes it easier to hit cardinals/intercardinals consistently), and that it's familiar to veteran players. Outside of that, the L/R buttons are slightly inferior due to changes in how the Switch reads them, and testing does seem to show that wired connections actually have slightly slower latency than wireless. (Inputs registering a frame faster on wireless about 60% of the time.)
