Will using a potato masher and then tossing it in the dressing work as well as smashing it in a Ziploc? I am trying to reduce my consumption of non-biodegradable products, although I really like the convenience of putting everything into a bag and smashing it. Great way to destress!

Totally understand. I worry that a potato smasher will end up bruising the cucumber too much without creating enough rough surfaces due to the lack of force. I would suggest wrapping the cucumber pieces with a clean kitchen towel and smashing them in it. This way you also get rid of the excess moisture. Then you can toss them in the dressing. To be honest, even if you just sliced the cucumber and dressed it, it' would probably be 80% as tasty, so don't worry too much about the smashing. (I mostly did it for the camera...😂)
