This is a cool idea to let your customer know the quality work is done. Here in Chelsea,I have seen samples of cement being taken for reference with the mixers name not just the company's name-OUCH!

First few courses busted knees. Mid courses busted back, after a day laying blocks the morning after i feel like ive been run over by a bus! I think its my build im 5'10 and only 10 stone... Bit weedy for this game . oh i almost forgot, tidy block work. Block laid flat works well for a cheap garden wall or retainer too. Ive got a full pack of heather rustic to lay tomorrow on my own i can't wait!

oldmanfromyork . We love doing these garages , it’s a nice break from trench block . Poor Alex is 6’ 1” and 10 stone so it is hard for the first few courses, he is doing really well though 👌🏼, good luck tomorrow with your heather rustics 😬 👍🏼

I'm Navy so wondering why you only put cement on the edges of vertical joints of blocks? would water get in or is this ok?
@SteveAndAlexBuild
@SteveAndAlexBuild 6 жыл бұрын
Albertdog101 . What your seeing is probably a bad habit , we do fill the joints up after and the beds for the next course help to fill them too . The block work in this video will be completely buried so need to repel water . We will be showing us finishing the garage off but we ain’t built it yet . Thanks for watching and for commenting 👍🏼

You should have chased that mid wall from one side too the other to get bond and you would have avoided that half in the wall and not had too put 2 brick in it. Things like that save time
@SteveAndAlexBuild
@SteveAndAlexBuild 5 жыл бұрын
No matter how tight you make the joints swapping the bond puts a piece in the wall . It’s a lot quicker to lob 2 bricks in than cut a block every course . The only cuts on the whole footing are the halves in the party wall . Thanks for watching and commenting 🧱👍🏽
@brickbybric
@brickbybric 6 жыл бұрын
In general the work looks good lads . The only thing I noticed the block on flat is bonded in single courses which does not allow for bonding block on edge into it why did you opt to do it that way . The middle wall looks like it’s free standing .
@SteveAndAlexBuild

Why are you building it out of 4inch solid block and not 8inch cmu grouted every 32 with a bond beam at the top out
@brickbybric
@brickbybric 6 жыл бұрын
toddsjaws todd that method of construction you describe would not be used on this side of the pond (assuming your in the u.s.a or Canada) . I’m in Ireland and the lads in the video are in the uk . our building regulations and methods of masonry construction would be for the most part the same as the u.k .A lot of houses were built in Ireland from the 60s using 8 inch c.m.u or as we call them 9 inch cavity blocks ( our blocks are a bit bigger than the ones you use .in imperial measurements they would be 8.5 by 8.5 by 17.5 approximately . Even when they built houses out of them they would as far as I know use the solid 4 inch block below damp proof course and the cavity blocks from d.p.c up . From d.p.c to wall plate in a 2 story house (22 courses + a 4 inch block on flat to close the cavity at the top that the wall plate was bolted to .there would be no bond beams no steel no grouting . They built them in blocks of 2 ,3 or terrace rows and they are still standing as good today as when the where first built. There are government grants available in Ireland today to retrofit them with exterior insulation because they are thermally inefficient . But other than that they are good to go. Party walls between the housing units I believe were built with 4 inch solid block on flat with fireplaces chimney breasts built in to them.

toddsjaws todd . Hi mate I’m not sure what you mean I’m afraid ? Brick by brick has done a reply as he has some idea about how you guys work . The simple answer is we do it this way because we are told to . This is just the foundation so 4 course of engineering on top of this and we are done . We only sub contract to a groundworks firm so we only do foundations . Any other videos are from our weekend work . 👍🏼

Screw laying those solid block! No web to hold on to. The joints in my fingers are already screwed up. Why did you guys lay 12 inch block instead of the solid block, to save mud? The beds are awfully big lol. Dand my fingers hurt just watching.

@@SteveAndAlexBuild I'm from the eastern US. Are you guys required to put in anchor bolts? We have to have them every 48 inches and one foot off the corners both ways. Depending on the placement of the bolts we wouldn't be able to use them with solid 4 inch block. Sorry I dont know metric lol.
