@nealm6764
@nealm6764 3 жыл бұрын
@@philh7204 It is a chicken and egg type of thing though. Does James talk like that because he never gets to finish anything he says, or does Billy jump in because he senses James isn't really going anywhere? I have a friend who after the first sentence that I say jumps in on that, even if it was only something I was saying to set up context for what I wanted to say. After a while I just stopped trying to say anything meaningful or anything that required more than 8 words. There just was no point. He is going through a divorce, and though he is mostly a great guy, I feel sorry for his wife if she had to live like that for 20 years. She probably stopped trying to talk with him years ago.

The interviewer got dominated just like the other two band members. Corgan will dominate unless the interview controls. Of the ones I've seen online the only one who dominated him is Kennedy, from MTV back in the day. She ran the show. It's also why D'arcy is so missed (among other reasons). She would not have allowed this. She'd have interjected and eye rolled and other things to reel Corgan in a bit and even involve the other two.

Corgan is a shy extrovert (yes, it's a thing) so in a situation like this he's going to talk incessantly. It's up to the interviewer to direct the questions in an inclusive way. That may have been a struggle with James, but Jimmy looked liked he had lots to say.

Nailed it. This was an interview, it'd make for a pretty boring interview if he didn't focus on the creative force behind the band. But for sure the interviewer should have done more to coax responses from James, and just outright give Jimmy some questions period (since he seems introverted but not to the point that he doesn't like to discuss things at length the way James is, which I like about James, he's kinda "mysterious" lol.)

Hate to say it because a lot of times Corgan comes off as an ass, but let's be real. Corgan is much more insightful so the interviewers will focus on him to get the most interesting tidbits of information. The difference now is he's finally realizing how important the other band members are to the overall creative process. I don't know what went on behind the scenes with their most recent songs, but based on the reactions and looks on the faces of the other guys, Corgan probably accepted their creative input. They actually had smiles on their faces.
@cirenosnor5768
@cirenosnor5768 5 жыл бұрын
Henry TheGreatAmerican - Corgan may be more insightful in general, but he isn’t more insightful regarding what prompted the others to participate in the reunion, how THEY feel about the record and so on. I’ve worked with James, he definitely has opinions about his place in the band then and certainly now. Would be nice if they were heard more. Remember when Letterman interviewed Page, Plant and Paul Jones during their reunion. Dave took answers mainly from Page & Plant while PJ sat mostly silent. Then Dave started asking rather inane Zeppelin future work together n’ such where every Page & Plant answer was “No” - then JP says “How many NO’s do you want?” Was hilarious and it got the biggest cheers from the audience aside from them walking out onto the set. Sometimes it doesn’t take being incredibly articulate to be insightful or at least give a entertaining interview

Zane needed to realize that Billy was going to dominate the conversation and that he needed to find ways to get James and Jimmy in on the interview. Billy getting the lion's share of the air time is understandable, but people want to hear from the other members as well. If you don't have a game plan going into the interview, Billy is going to take over the whole thing. Just by nature. I'd really love to sit down with James for about 2 hours and talk mostly about his solo albums, his experience in the Pumpkins and then with other bands. I've seen a lot of interviews with James and none of the interviewers have really seemed to do him justice.

Billy, you are so smart and such a wonderful poet, artist, and person who lived through the same period I did. I heard the Smashing Pumpkins then and now I still hear you only in a different way, I hear what you are saying. I was there too and I am still here now!

Couldn't help but roll my eyes when he made the reference that his generation "came out of a very repressed time." Untruth paired with a massive amount of self-importance. Billy also STILL has a chip on his shoulder about Gish getting overshadowed by Seattle Grunge. But yes, I still have most of their albums, and appreciate the music they made.

26:00 James was just about to say 'to be honest...', about the relief of foregoing the idea of recording a concept album that would have put him and Jimmy under a Billyocracy, again, when he was interrupted by Billy, again. Interesting interview, but a little less Billy. And to those who think James is naturally quiet or not talkative, watch his Rig Rundown for A Perfect Circle - guy's affable and hil-la-rious!

Even after all the decades of listening to them, every song, every music video and interview I could get my hands on, I am still inspired by each and every story I hear from the reunion tour. I love having truly grown with this band and seeing how they have also matured. The tour was an overwhelming dump of vivid memories and feelings. I can't thank you all enough for pulling together to make this tour happen. Therapeutic beyond words.

My fav band of the 90’s.Saw the Mellon Collie Tour here in Melbourne,Australia,blown away,my two fav decades of music 70’s and 90’s. Jimmy has an amazing drumsound ,jazzy vibe and feel I love and Billy’s distorted tone but his songwriting,incredible. Mellon Collie was like “grunge” prog rock,Thru The Eyes Of Ruby,Porcelina,goosebumps. Geek USA ,Quiet,Cherub Rock,timeless Siamese Dream songs. Jimmy’s drumming and Billy’s guitar fit together like burgers and fries. Pisces,Whir,such a beautiful piece of music and Machina,the greatest rock album to be listened while driving through the Aussie bush.

@ Zwerewolf (who incorrectly wrote, ""Me me me me me me me" - Billy Corgan"): No no no no no no. Billy Corgan was, in fact, inclusive, saying 'we/us' the majority of the time. That said, Mr. Corgan could have done with a bit of 'passing the mic' to his bandmates.

Not to chorus the rest of the comments but I've watched other interviews with just Billy and it seemed he had grown up and matured a bit and gave alot more credit to the other members. It seems to me that when he gets his group together, the ego of it comes back and it looks to me like this will be doomed to breakup again, probably alot quicker because they are all older now and dont need to "make it" again. Just wish Billy would learn to appreciate that all the members of the band provided an intricate and unique part to the whole that wouldnt have been the same without them. Sometimes I think he gets this, sometimes I wonder... Regardless, I wish them all the best of luck and look forward to hearing their new works. Much love forever.
