We’ve had SmaXtec for a little over a year now. It’s a great system and the more time you spend with it the better it gets.

We put the smaxtec system about 3 months ago. Love it! It is great for early detection health issues and has helped us have better reproduction performance with our cows. We haven't had a fresh cow go backwards since in our 500 cow herd. Worth the investment

Your animals appear to be in excellent condition. I applaud your use of this new monitoring system. You did a nice job explaining how it works and the benefits for the cows. Early intervention can prevent serious problems and this system should really provide that. It is fascinating to see how technology, of many different kinds, can ease the work load and improve efficiencies on the farm.

How exciting to have the Smaxtex system!!! From your explanation it should really help you get a “leg up” on each cows health before it gets to a critical stage. Great video Eric. Thanks for taking the time. To video, edit and take us along on your daily chores, much appreciated.

Found on the internet. The data cow bolus runs for about 12 months. It is designed to be excreted naturally through the cow's digestive system. However, if the bolus does not pass naturally, it can be removed by a veterinarian. I am not a farmer, vet, or tech.
@nmccw324511 ай бұрын
The bolus remains inside the cow for a lifetime. It remains in the same position in the reticulum due to its own weight, and is neither regurgitated nor digested.

They love those brushes. Nice on the technology you're using to monitor the health of your cows. Tech can be amazing but a pain also. Pros & cons.
@aarontpassmore11 ай бұрын
That's neat tech. I'm always aware of the possibility for plastics in food though. So when I see that I'm thinking - plastic sitting in the cows digestive track. Hm. How quickly does it degrade? What quantity of plastic chemical can then be expected to enter the meat and/or milk, and then pass on to the consumer? I think that in an age of so many cancers, it's something that is provident to consider. I've cut down on just about all the food related plastics I can. No plastic water bottles, etc. I buy the grass fed products when I have a choice, but who's to say those farmers don't use it too.

I tried these on my kids. Getting that insertion rod down their throats was a little rough, but I promised them iced cream and they're all happy now. I can see the iced cream ruminating inside them, and little Sally has a touch of fever. Not just for cows!

Hey Eric. I want to point out that the instruction manual of smaxtec strongly warns to administer the boluses on an empty stomach. Now, I'm not a farmer myself, but I got interested in the smaxtec system and discovered an online instruction manual. I quote: "Warning: After insertion, the smaXtec pH Plus Bolus or the smaXtec Classic Bolus needs to settle on the floor of the reticulum as quickly as possible. For this reason, it is important to ensure that the fibrous material in the rumen is not too dense, i.e. the cow should not recently have eaten anything. It is therefore of utmost importance that your animal should have an empty stomach when the sensor is administered. Acting in accordance with the user instructions provided by smaXtec will ensure smooth operation of the measurement procedure"

Ha Ha! Those cows love that brush... look how worn it is already LOL! I like those cow monitors. It will be interesting to see how this system changes your herd management if at all. Totally off topic but... Have you tried playing soft music in the parlor while milking? Seeing more and more people talking about increased milk production with some calming music playing just before and during milking. Seems like it would be a pretty low cost thing to try. Thanks for the video!

The technology of agriculture is a burgeoning field. The worlds population continues to grow. How do we feed these people? Only a little over 3 billion people in 1960. I’ll be 63 this year and I believe we’re nearing 8 billion. The health of the animals on any farm is so important. Especially grade “A” production. It creates that much more of an edge towards efficiency. Our dairy farming in the seventies was on the cutting edge at the time. So much more useful data and proven science goes into today’s farming.
