I like her... she is one of few that realizes the issue is not what most idiots say which is "late people are just selfish and dont care about other peoples time," which has never been the case for me. I need to learn better planning. I try to do a million things before I leave home... almost in an ocd kind of way, like I cant leave without these things done. And I understand estimate the time it takes to complete tasks. Thanks for your advice and fair judgment!

I agree, that's what I felt while listening to her. There's another counselor here on KZfaq who insists that the reasons you stated (selfish, attention seeking) are why, the ONLY reason why, people run late. I think that lumping everyone who has a certain behavior trait into one category when you don't even know them or what's going on in their lives and heads is lazy, ignorant, and unhelpful.

I think for me its just the idea that you have to find something to do every minute and leave until you absolutely have to. Moving forward I will just shift my mindset to “what could be so bad with being 15mins early” i can have time to gather my thoughts check my email anything really

I HATE being late, but I also hate leaving my home to go places and I really believe I have a phobia about getting to a place "early". I tell people to tell me I HAVE TO be to a place, before I actually have to be there, so that I actually arrive when they actually want me to be there. However, you can't ask your boss to give you a modified schedule and when I've tried to modify it on paper, I knew it wasn't real, so I couldn't fool myself. I keep putting off leaving as much as possible, by looking for and finding things to do. I think I am optimistically hoping I will get a call and they will say "you don't need to arrive today". It's only happened once in my life, so it is an unreasonable expectation. I can wake up and get ready and arrive 5-20 minutes late, while having 30 minutes to do everything, or I can have 3 hours, the length of time I have, doesn't matter, it all has to do with what goes on in my head, up until the point that I get in a car to leave. I hope these 2 videos will help solve my problem. I've been fighting it for nearly (or all of?) my entire life. This also unfortunately, makes me put off having fun with my hobbies and cleaning my place up, leaving them neglected. I believe if I could overcome lateness and stuff, that I would be transformed into a super-human and accomplish insanely awesome stuff. I need to know how to change my thinking. The fear of being fired or fear of getting kicked out of my home or anything like that, has no impact on being late. Therefore, being afraid of something, has zero motivation for me. I wish I had a life-coach to hold my hand through making the change.

Yes. So good to hear you say that. I haven't heard that before. I perpetually always get there "just in the nick of time". So I'm not late, but dang if I can get there early to give me some breathing space. I think subconsciously I see that early time as wasted time... that I could have used that for something more "important".
