You guys requested this one so lets talk about it, In this video we talk about what the DCCD (Driver Controlled Center Diff) and what the VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control) Do. Not only do we talk about them but we also go out and use them to see if we can notice significant feedback from using the DCCD in the Subaru STI.
Please note I rendered to the SI drive as VDC when in actuality it is the SI Drive. The VDC has to do with the torque vectoring and the Stability and traction control which are still intertwined with the DCCD.

I am aware, for some reason I was calling thr SI Drive VDC, don't know why. But whenever I say VDC I am referring to SI Drive.

Awesome detailed information brother. My VDC is a glorified boost controller now with my Protune. On an external wastegate setup and 3 port boost solenoid. I = 13psi (Spring Pressure) , S = 15psi, S# = 18psi. Before in stock mode, VDC was pretty much pointless, and always left it in S Mode.

Thank you for explaining everything so well! I been trying to decide to get wrx or sti for many years. DCCD and VDC sounds great but thats an extra gadget or equipment that ads more weight to the car and causes reliability to go down because its more stuff to break down. I wish they made the WRX with the STI transmission and the 2.5 liter and sti turbo because I really don't like the idea of adjusting all these nobs. WRX seems much simpler but it has weaker transmission and rev hang and less power than STI. Plus sti can be modified very heavily up to 600 horsepower with factory transmission. So they are very different cars on the internals.

You also have aftermarket DCCD controllers that add quite a bit more than stock. MapDCCD and Spiider Plus, both are more sophisticated and can be customized as well as have better auto settings. Although this more applies to a WRX with swapped STI 6 speeds.

I found in my 06 sti most of the time I have it almost unlocked fully (usually in the second position from the bottom) and it stops the rear diff from doing the annoying clunk between gears at low speeds. If I have it fully unlocked it will do it almost all the time unless i'm accelerating hard between gears. When its wet roads i'll put it halfway locked for better front end control, but if it is snow/ice i'll keep it almost fully locked. Only time I ever lock it is when I am drifting in really deep snow, I do notice the steering get much stiffer as I increase the diff lock as well. Fuel economy is effected greatly by having it more locked as well, so that's why I mainly keep it unlocked. In auto mode I can feel my car almost always has my diffs locked cause my steering gets heavy and you can hear the front diff wine more. Love having the option to change between the settings though, manual mode is definitely the way to go!

It's not about front or rear bias, it's about how much locking force is applied in the electronic LSD of the center diff. The bias is dictated by the planetary gears and therefore always fixed at 41:59. This is hardware-driven and cannot be changed by electronics, which only control the increase or decrease in the LSD effect of the center diff.

Love the videos brother but you are going over the DCCD and SI-DRIVE systems. The dial for Intelligent (I), Sport (S) & Sport Sharp (# ) is the SI-Drive system. VDC (vehicle dynamics control) is Subaru’s Electronic Stability Control. This is found in pretty much every Subaru model. It’s like traction control.

Auto + and - is not bias front or Rear. it's just how much force will there be to keep the C Diff engaged. + means the C diff is firm with very little slip that your rear wheel speed with match front wheel speed if either wheel lost traction. - means the C diff is loosely engaged and power will be send to the wheel that lost traction. Please refer to page 7-20 on the Owner's Manual which makes everything crystal clear.....

Im protuned by Johnson tuning. I still feel a big difference when going through the VDC modes. Intelligent wont let my boost dont past 8lbs. Sport gives it a nice response. And sport# is too agressive lol. I hate that mode. Its good for racing but normal driving its too agressive and responsive. If i drive in sport mode for a while and switch to sport#, i find my self over revving the car in first gear.

I really hate sounding like a fanboy.. Hearing your car driving, and considering you've done so many things I've wanted to do and do myself, hearing how it sounds accelerating I know I have my Protune right.. Sounds exactly like mine! Makes me feel like I'm doing it right! Only problem was trying to put a full 3" DP+N1 Invidia Exhaust. Too much flow, and would overboost constantly in my '17 STi Limited. Had to go back to the factory DP for now until I can install an up-pipe, external wastegate and boost controller. Just was shocked at how much the factory turbo wants to make boost at 55k miles still!

@jonathanb1987
@jonathanb1987 4 жыл бұрын
@@hamzahahmed2642 definitely don't drive with it locked on dry pavement. That is something that you can use on loose gravel or snow. Jeep Rubicons can lock their front and rear differentials for mud, mud snow, gravel, and rock crawling. With both vehicles, the wheels naturally need turn at different speeds on dry pavement. When you lock up the differentials on dry pavement the wheels cannot turn at different speeds like they normally do and will bind up and cause heavy wear on your drive train components. Loose or slippery surfaces allow the wheels to slip greatly reducing the wear on the drive train.

For what I understood Auto the car will detect your activity and do it for you. Auto - better handling and more fun in dry conditions. Auto + when it snows or rains for better control and traction. I’m pretty sure they’re all safe that’s what the car was designed for. Just don’t fool around with the Manual if you’re not sure what it does. Just stick to Auto -+ and you’ll be good.

Just got a '20 STI a few months ago. I figure for most driving, leaving DCCD in manual and with full "minus" puts it as open as possible (lowest chance of binding) and since it's not auto, it won't be constantly adjusting things so they aren't wearing out as fast. Make sense? Also, in traffic, I find Sport+ best because it's easiest to avoid stalling if the engine responds immediately ☺️ Does the SI Drive setting matter when in cruise control, given that the throttle is fully automated then? 🤔
@Smeedia

When it cruise control it won't really matter the SI drive just adjustments the sensitivity if the gas pedal 🔥

So, hearing about your tuning replacing your SI Drive modes raises a question for me - on my 19 STi I just recently added a Cobb access port and the SF intake w/box. I flashed the correct OTS tune for it (waiting until I get a down pipe and a few other pieces before I pay to get it pro tuned), and the SI mode is automatically set to intelligent after the flash completes - does the tune nullify sport and sport#? If I change the mode will that mess my tune or anything? Thanks, love your videos b

Living in the Midwest, when we get snow or ice, what’s the preferred settings for both? Also when it’s raining what’s your settings for both? I’m on stock STi recently bought so she’s still in break period at the time of this comment :). Thank you advance.

For snow and Ice I would start out in the auto + setting to get a feel for the car a little more. Once you get more comfortable I would play with the manual settings to find a sweet spot that fits your driving style for optimal traction 😁 When it rains I just leave it in auto mode and let the computer adjust for traction. 😅 Also congratulations on the new car!

I want to use it for drifting I want to have the option of all-wheel drive but I want to be able to put more of my power to the rear end so I can drink with the car when I want to is this actually feasible with this setup? I would really love it if I could manually adjust it by literally turning a dial and it would put more percentage to rear or two front depending on dial turn but I'm okay with it being more digital plus and minus I'm just wondering can I actually use this in the manual - setting for more of a drift mode? I'm guessing I need more VDC but I'm not sure is this something you could access via computer and make adjustments to where in Fallout it could be all rear-wheel-drive but any other two settings it could 50/50 or what's the deal I would really like a setting where I put it all the way and number three and it's full rear-wheel number to 50/50 and number one either vectoring between front and rear wheel for best traction or maybe even a full front wheel drive mode setting. Is this even possible? Like make Sport Plus all rear wheel sport all-wheel and a regular drive mode that is just front wheel?
