Yeah, I thought so too. I've had cats who will hold serious grudges towards anyone or thing they perceive as 'hurting' their human. Humans are precious resources who bring food, safety and comfort. 😉

The way she crashes into it cracks me up.

That's what happens when you let your cat play with your hands, they grow up thinking you are their toy. Not only that, but they reward Guppy for biting with toys and attention, only reinforcing bad behavior. I remember when I was a kid and my neighbor had a cat that would bite your legs really hard when he wanted attention. It upset me, made me fear going to their house, and almost made me hate cats entirely. DO NOT ALLOW YOUR CATS TO BITE YOU.

@@sparkyUSA1976 Glad you got relief. Capsaicin (the thing that makes those peppers "hot") has long been recognized as an effective treatment for neuralgia and other pain disorders. My cat was just an omnivore, who loved fragrances, as well as certain colors.

I’m glad I’m not the only one not laughing at the ankle bites and thinking the giving of toys and pets is just reinforcing the behavior. It’s obviously not pleasant for the humans, despite laughter.

Just make sure it covers your ankles 😹

Yes! What I said! It’s common Single Kitten Syndrome (which Billi doesn’t have). It makes me wonder if she had littermates or cat social interaction when she was a kitten.

@@originalismisacrock166 And yet there's constant reinforcement of Guppy's biting behavior. The reason it's so bad is because everyone REWARDS Guppy for attacking people. It's honestly disgusting to see. Kendra is a MEDICAL professional for animals who is training button use with Billi, her personal cat who also happens to be pretty non-problematic with her baseline behaviors. That is not the same thing as being a professional trainer in any way. Pet behaviorists and vets have some overlapping knowledge, but a vet is not inherently a good trainer.

@@clockside Very true. Kendra has experience working in zoo settings. She uses many of the same techniques. When I referred to her as a "professional," I was referring to that subspecialty. I very much know that not all vets are good trainers. LOL. I had a housemate in graduate school who was a vet student. He was an adequate (mostly) dog trainer for his golden retriever but had no theoretical foundation. I lent him my copy of Skinner's "About Behaviorism" (1976). Mind blown.

⁠@@clockside Granted, Single Kitten Syndrome is extremely difficult to treat, , even w/redirection, provided a physical outlet (cat wheel) & rewarding positive behaviour (never punish!) and only isolate as a very last resort. It appears that Guppy never received the manual how to be a cat. It’s likely she chomped hoomans when she was a kitten & people think it’s cute when they are 2 months old. Couple that with being the only kitten while being a young kitten. Billi really responds to the buttons & her behaviour is very positive as a cat & very bright. Daphne is learning commands like “leave it”, “sit” “stay” & go to another room without issue. And dogs don’t have Single Kitten Syndrome. If Kendra’s sister is interested, she might want to consult a behaviouralist. If Guppy does bite & break skin of a friend or colleague, that can be very problematic.
