In the forgotten and arid desert lies a cemetery that, without the support of a few volunteers, would be completely abandoned. This is the story of Smetlertown.

Thanks for making the video. I had family there. Its an almost forgotten part of el paso that was very important part of our community.

My great grandfather worked at asarco and died from years of exposure. Very sad

The volunteers still maintain the grounds and repair the Graves and fence. They just added trees. The historical marker will ceremoniously be erected soon. See Willie Cordero on Saturday mornings.

I never heard of this place we wanted to go today but we got scared there was two military people we busted a u turn and left. Can we go or we get in trouble would like to take roses to the graves

Hopefully you can do a story on the near by lake right across buena Vista i belive you can see it from i 10
