In this quick tutorial I show you how to make a smooth zoom out transition in Adobe After Effects cc 2024 without using any plugins. This transition is super simple to do, yet it delivers great results. You can use this zoom out transition to create professional looking transitions between videos. It could be a good addition to your flat editing toolkit. The cool thing about the smooth zoom out transition is that it uses 2 adjustment layers and 2 simple built-in effects to create a professional video editing transition.

never seen this done with adjustment layers, I usually use nulls. But i was trying to find out if i can add my shakes in a bigger precomp on a adju. layer... Thanks for the new ideas

Adjustment layers allow to quickly add multiple transitions as a preset sort of, very handy

@@SmertimbaGraphicsI use nulls and z space for my zooms and black bars to hide anything whacky or control it i like that effect in edits but not really in cinematic sequences. I’ll try it more often though 100%

Excellent video; however, I would like to use this effect going from one video to another to another. Do I need to create a new adjustment layer for each transition? Or should I isolate the video clips+ transition into their own compositions?

SOLVED: I just added another adjustment layer overlapping with the second video and transitioning into the third. You can also copy and paste the keyframes to go faster.

Great to know you figured it out on your own. You could also duplicate the adjustment layers altogether and move them over to a next cut

Not really, it's just a different way of making a transition, nulls require more work to setup the transition, while with an adjustment layer you can quickly create multiple transitions by duplicating.

Yes absolutely, you can save animation presets or there is another way that's better but it would need a dedicated video to explain

I could suggest watching this one kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r9KJn8yqs7_UiZ8.html watch from 4:30 it shows how to create a preset from multiple adjustment layers, you just have to save a composition and import it into any project, then drag and drop. I am going to make an in depth tutorial about that, just can't tell you when, so this video is the best I could think of to help you out 😁

You would need to save animation presets separately for each adjustment layer and also apply separately, for all in one preset, saving a composition as AE project is the go. Every popular preset pack uses that method, me included 😁 hopefully I was able to help out

It's a key on the keyboard, above arrow keys usually, next to home key

You can manually move the time indicator if the shortcut doesn't work

As for page up/down keys, you can set up keybinds in key preferences, by default it should be set to page up/down

Select the comp you want to export, then open file menu up top, export, choose the format and everything according to your needs, I suggest you google it to better understand how it's done😁
