Less then 27 episode, huh? Then I recommend my first late night anime, My-HiME. There is a "sequel", called My-Otome, but the story aren't related (much like Fairy Tail and Rave aren't related to one another [at least last time I read them] even though some characters look, named, and sound the same), so you don't need to cover it if you want to watch My-HiME. EDIT: Apparently people teasing GoPri for its shipping. Well, wait until you reach MTP, where it is shipping from beginning all the way to end (and yes, that includes both the all-star movie and the regular movie).

Hey I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this but during Suite PreCure’s run, some of its episodes delayed. This was caused by the 8.9 Magnitude Earthquake that hit Japan on March 11th, 2011. It is believed that part of Smile PreCure’s development was to have a focus on getting through tough times and losing love ones in order to create your “Happy Ending” so that kids who lost their love ones or are going through tough times would feel better! PreCure DX 3 did have a tribute to those who were involved in the Earthquake, but Smile PreCure was a really nice package :) EDIT: this is probably why the whole theme of “loss” is a major one! LOVE THE VIDEOS!!!

Smile is basically "Cute Precures doing cute things". Character development and plot do take a backseat but I don't think that was a bad thing for this season in particular. The characters personalities, interactions and the strong visuals can do the job of keeping the viewer engaged. I remember Smile being heavily criticized at the time it came out for leaning too much into episodic slice of life, but then Doki and HaCha's more serialized but all over the place (and, well, horribly written) approach made many reevaluate Smile and have a better opinion of it.

The villains, I think, deserved WAY more credit than that. 1. *They had a mutual reason to become bad*. It was revealed to us at the end of the series the truth behind the villains' intentions. Honestly, for a show meant for five and six year olds, that was a sophisticated move. It was also executed in a way that their minds would comprehend (really, though, kids aren't stupid; that's one thing producers underestimate about 'em). 2.*The Joker*. I think we can all agree he surprised us in many ways: first, his personality, which seemed way more exotic than appropriate (or necessary) for a childrens' program. Also, the very definition of Joker in himself as a character was engaging for the older viewers, too. I don't know, it's simply this prospect about having an incarnation like him in a show themed around fairy tales was unique. Not only that, but his character design was also very clever, starting off with the balls on his hat (I forgot the minion-villain things that are summoned in this season's case) to his mask/eyes, which fits in with the part that he's mysterious and we don't know much concerning his motives. I guess you could say we were blindfolded. 3. *Pierrot*. Everything you said in the video, but I would like to add on one more thing: "pierrot" translates to "clown" in Japanese (something along those lines, it's about time I checked up on my vocab). This would also reference Joker in a mild way, looking at his character art.

All I know about Smile is that it got the 4kidz treatment with the dub. a banging theme song along with cheesy ass dialogue to put it simply.

Not gonna lie, despite the lackluster of smile precure is. This series is probably what most people would recommend to first timer, because that's how fun this series is

You know, Precure actually used to be very popular in Italy, it even had a professional, non-localized dub (even though they mispronounced some names) so maybe the correlation between Pierrot and Commedia Dell'Arte is some kind of homage to the italian fanbase?

Just so you are aware for Doki Doki Precure... the “6th Ranger” for that season was literally Toei trolling us. This is on record and you can look it up. The cuts to Glitter Force were originally made for TV, Nickelodeon actually. I also suggest Ms. Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid!

The problem with DokiDoki is that the more episodes you whatch the more you notice is less precure and more THE CURE HEART SHOW

Thank you for this, truly. I never realised this was why Smile, warts and all, was structured the way it was! People always say it doesn't make good use of its fairytale motif, and while I think this is true in some aspects (the Precure book was never important again until the finale, for example), the fact Smile is, in itself, a fairytale that's built up episode by episode is really insightful.

I also loved that the person who voiced Candy (Ikue Otani) is also the person who voices Pikachu.

Wow, this video showed up in my recommendation list. Don’t know why but I’m glad I watched it and wished I found you sooner. Great video and thank you so much👍 I love this season. It may be technically my second exposure to the Precure franchise but what an exposure it was. After watching it's English adaptation on Netflix and enjoyed it immensely (Don't judge me. I didn't know how bad Saban was with localization at the time....), I looked it up on the internet and noticed that there's are cut episodes, some censorship, and incredibly altered dialogues. Naturally, I watched the entire thing again in Japanese and I love this season even more than I used to, which says something for a guy who isn't into anime. Turns out that I'm not alone, as there are many other people, long time fans and new veterans alike who thinks so as well. In fact, it was regularly placed in Japan's weekly Top 10 shows during it's run. And who can blame anyone? This is largely contributed to it’s great humor and scenarios, really emotional moments, it’s solid cast of characters (Infact, I argue that it’s one of best in the Precure series, both villains and Cures alike.), a presentation that not a lot of it’s predecessors or successors has, and just simply being easy and fun to watch. Not to mention it isn’t pretentious with it’s theme or storytelling. On a final note, I have to disagree what you said about Candy. Sure, she starts off as annoying but she actually develops and becomes a much more responsible fairy later on. She even helps the Cures in some of their fights but it’s not done in a way that comes off as forced.

I have no clue why they wouldn’t want to take the opportunity to teach kids about Japanese culture in dubs. Kids aren’t going to hate it. Kids will like it the same. They’ll like the character if they have a Japanese name, heck they’ll think it’s cool. Honestly.

Reika x Miyuki seems to be the only ship this season but believe me this is only the start of the shipping revolution as to my knowledge every precure season after this heavily ships at least 2 characters together... to my knowledge, I havent seen go princess, but I've seen all of the other ones and yeah there is some shipping going on.

RIP to the voice actor of Joker, who passed away a few years ago and also voiced Tamaki from Code Geass Dx First of all ! LOVE. THE. ART. STYLE. !!!! It's the most well drawn and animated out of all the other precure series that I've seen; not clunky, not stale, no awkward CGIs, the girls look cute and can even be hawt sometimes, the action scenes are super fluid with almost no stock footage. The visuals sucked me in right away but the series as a whole did NOT disappoint (much) ~ the colors are also SUPER vibrant and the only other artistically/visually appealing/intriguing series I can think of is HC :X I haven't really said much about the attacks, finishers, transformation, and power moves of the other cures but, the ones in Smile are probably the second best one right after Fresh ~ pretty sure you can do a deep dive on everyone's transformations and how it relates to their character ;) The green one is about family : INSERT VIN DIESEL MEMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XDDDDDDDDDDDD THAT'S NOT GUNDAM THAT'S ................................. some other mecha thing :P but yeah I also love the mecha homage tributes in here , fucking laughed my butt off ~~ as well as the other things like the chibi versions of themselves and so forth :P I feel like they explored the most concepts in this series :O Yayoi's chracters dev. arc is just..... OOF ............ one of the most saddening ones out of all the precures we've seen so far but also the most realistic one that hits closest to home for a lot of people. the blue one is just ....... so COOL and elegant and stylish with everything she does while adding just enough flare to it, to the point where it looks like I've witnessed "true beauty" ;) I also love the villains in this series, super developed, pretty funny, they look like they shouldn't mix well together and yet they do and work well off each other ~ Joker was prob the BEST one since he's SUPER FUCKING MEANINCING but I hate Pierro (which just means clown in Japanese) since he's just the big bad at the end meant to get killed off by some CGI attack =_+ LITERALLY they could have just made the FINAL FINAL boss as Joker merging with Pierro or the Dark cURES merging to "become" Pierro, but no, oh well =_+ it's my only complain about the show but EEEEEEEVERYTHING else about it was 20/10 >.> You missed the Dark Cures again :P they're GREAT opponents for our cures to develop as they're ACTUAL manifestations of their negative side; not just some mental blockage like the ones HC, random clones from 5, they could have gone sooooooooooooo far and so deep with them yet they're all ignored and shoved aside pretty quickly Dx true sadness indeed, it's the other thing about this series and makes me ultra-NOT-happy about :X

You should do a Magical Girl show that's not Precure, so that you can point out all the differences. I suggest; Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha (How do we get boys to watch a Magical Girl show? Have lots of awesome fights!), or Puella Magi Madoka Magica (Let's show how the standard assumptions of Magical Girl show do not make sense.), or Yuki Yuna is a Hero (Let's spend lots of time on character development, so that when bad things happen, the audience will care.)

I know I am way behind watching this series but I just finished Smile and while you say it didn't do much different than other season there is one thing I noticed about this season rather than the rest. It's that most of the one off episodes are more western inspired than other Pretty Cure season. Like the shrunken episode, the body switch episode, the invisible episode, turning into kids episode. Which goes hand in hand with the fairy tale premise but also isn't something we seen as much in other Pretty Cure seasons. When it comes to Cure Beauty I wasn't really a fan how they handled the Student Council episode. May have been my subtitles of that episode but there was a line that she said that she was excited to see a new person take the title. Yet it felt as she was being forced to do it only because the villains were gonna screw up the school and when you look at the episode when she is deciding on traveling abroad. To me it felt kind of contradicting she said in the episode she wanted to see someone new take the position just for her to pull herself up by the bootstraps and do it again. Just so the travel abroad episode to say you can be a little selfish and decide not to do it. Maybe I am reading to much into it lol but I just found it a little jarring. When you talk about loss is that Cure March should have been added their too with her family. Because she protects her family to try and avoid loss even though this season already is hammering her lover for family like crazy already. I just wanted to say I love your Pretty Cure videos I know I am way behind on an old video but I am slowly but surely will catch up to the latest season one day!

Regarding viewers choice recommendation, how about we keep in the realm of the Magical Girl Genre and go for Pretear? Most Magical Girl series don't fit your episode cap, and most of the ones that do tend to be deliberately genre subversions/deconstructions/parodies, but Pretear isn't.

A few things about Glitter Force. First off, the reason why Saban got the rights is apparently due to it being a part of their contract with Toei for acquiring the Digimon rights, rather than actually wanting to dub Precure. And secondly, Saban did originally plan for GF to air on Nickelodeon, hence the weird fades to black and it being cut into two 20 episode seasons, just like the Power Rangers seasons that aired on the network (apparently Nick has a rule limiting shows that air on it to 20 episodes a year).

he thing about Nao's character arc is that she is a coward. She starts out being afraid of irrational things like bugs, ghosts, and heights. Once her final focus episode comes around, her bravery is put to the test as she is on tne brink of losing two of her siblings which is her biggest fear. It is not pointed out in the series, but I see it as her growing to realise that bugs is just a tiny problem vompared to losing her family. The scene where Majorina almost kills her family is a scene that I've watched countless times and it still gives me the chills on how the fear in her eyes are drawn. Heck, Nao is still also one of my least favorite characters.

Glad to see you got out of Smile basically what I did, a fun time. Now it's time for you to see all the shipping that is Mana's harem XD I actually liked the ep when they were changed into kids if for nothing else than it was funny watching them try and fail their attacks. Another season down, another step closer to the anticipated Go Princess review, which, because of your fair and well presented opinion on every season so far I hope can manage to either shed some light as to why so many people claim it to be the best, or if you'll join the club of its bad, like me... I also recently came across a chart showing merchandise sales for all seasons from Splash Star up to Hugtto, and Go Princess had the worst sales only second to Splash Star itself, which makes me feel a bit less ousted about not liking it... it seems I'm not alone in that regard. And if you think the Smile butchery dub is bad with what they cut, Doki doki ups the ante by cutting it up to cram scenes from 6 eps into what they show while also removing 13 whole episodes, bringing the 49 episode series down to a measly 30. Which for some may be a godsend, but I didn't feel it was that bad, and I found it even more enjoyable on a second watch. If possible, could you get a count of how many times people say they love Mana? Though if you've already started, it may be too late :P

I really enjoyed this season and Glitter Force made the experience even more enjoyable for me contrary to the opinions of some fans that I may or may not find annoying. Some people may put too much emphasis on its flaws and what was missing but I still had fun and even more fun listening to an English adaptation and even gave me more passion as someone who generally defends it and even fury emphasized the things I loved about the original in my eyes and the catchy theme is my jam! I just go along with the westernization of the series I’ve already been used to the practice in other things, It also breaks my heart to hear it’s very vocal hatedom over the vocal minority of fans who actually appreciates and cares about it even knowing the original work. At least I have those people.

I wish I can read somewhere the Smile precure novel "10 years later" as I really wanna know what the heck Nao's doing with her future. We nearly always learn each cure's future profession (except Reika, Aguri, Megumi, and Haruka but they had stuff going on). I guessed correctly that Akane will choose okonomiyaki over volleyball (read it on the wiki), Reika thankfully didn't become a doctor (blue cure doctors are a sin at this point) and we already knew about Miyuki and Yayoi. ...But what about Nao? My best guess is becoming a housewife and popping out kids like a factory. It sounds mean but she had nothing else going for, she wasn't THAT serious about soccer.

I watched Smile Precure and I'm finishing up Suite Precure. I thought some episodes seem familiar (especially Suite Precure episode 30) and I had to remind myself that Suite came before Smile. I still enjoyed both of them but Smile Precure is the community's most favorite and popular season. Why?

Wow, from what you say, Reika is basically me. i already had plans to watch this season but i may need to do so sooner, cause goddam there's few examples of characters like that in media, and some kind of try? like maybe minami/mermaid? but not really the same thing....since she is mostly pressured because of her family ties, not her abilities, and that has been done to death in japanese media and it is not truly the same issue (even if both can happen in real life at once) It can be really hard for people like this to truly "unleash" their wishes and self from expectations, and the whole concept people have of "wasted potential". So For anyone out there like this, just know, the fact you are good (no matter how good, even if you were at a freaking insane level) at certain things doesn't mean you have to follow them as a career and monetize them to their fullest, or make them anything more than a hobby, or even an experience you tried once or twice and never again. That's for you to decide. There is no biggest waste than using your time on what others want for you, rather than what you want for yourself, and the only reason people tend to think in the line of "good at math = must be an engineer/business person/etc" and such, is because our society pushes for everything to be monetized (capitalism yall) and uses this concept as the value of us as people too. But you don't need to be trapped in that hole of anxiety and guilt that shouldn't exist in the first place, just be your own, self decided, best self. Others will mostly push you out of good intentions, but as they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions, and no matter how good their intentions are, you know yourself the best and shouldn't feel guilty for not fulfilling their arbitrary expectations (and yes, they are arbitrary. they might me well intentioned, common, """reasonable""" as in never questioned by most people, but they are arbitrary).

I assume the Netflix "localization" didnt pick up much huh? :D Tho Netflix has so many people watching it, it might not have been so bad regardless of how botched it was. Well at least it introduced some new people into the franchise hopefully (not that I watch it but you know, more fans is always a good thing)
