The Soft Boys and solo Robyn HC have influenced so many bands. He’s underrated, talented as hell and a funny guy.

I would have paid money to see this on Letterman at the time. It must have been quite a shock. Queen Elvis was my first intro to Robyn, and I have not looked back since. brilliant man.

Robyn is an acquired taste, but to those of us who get him and listen to his music his songs have depth, emotion and quirky, intriguing allusions. An intelligent rocker.

What the hell do expect from a man who was influenced primarily by Bob Dylan, John Lennon, and Syd Barret (along with the Byrds and Big Star)? FUCKING ROBYN HITCHCOCK THAT'S WHO! As an 18 year old, finding the work of Robyn Hitchcock and the Soft Boys was one of the greatest musical finds that I've come across (and I've had to find all my music myself, since my parents listen only to Contemporary Christian music, blah!).

Ballon Man was the first song I heard. I ran to the record store like a squirrell loading up for winter. I bought everything they had out. Queen Elvis is a masterpiece. This is a desert isle cd. I recommend it to everyone. I saw Robyn & The Egyptians at Bogarts in Long Beach, 91`ish? THAT was a fun band to watch. My date thought He looked like Paul McCartney. I dunno, kinda?

I just saw Robin on Henry Rollins show singing about a tarantula with a spicy gotee!! He's quite clever.

Sid with a ponytail...WOW! ;-) Actually, I don't recall seeing 'home bands' used as much by visiting artists as Paul & Co. over the past 20 years, which may go to show how 'trusted' they are ( I know Sid used to be on of Peter Gabriel's touring guitarists).

Great song. The lyrics must have thrown people but the tune is fairly accessible.

I was a huge fan of Robyn and put quite a lot of my money his way till he said some things I found rather repugnant (I won’t share them). I can’t deny however that this is an amazing song. I like this performance but there’s one by Neko Case which betters it in my opinion.

Great song and performance from Robyn but, by god, the Letterman house band stank up everything they put their kack-hands to.
