How fucked is it that this is the most realistic punch I’ve ever seen animated, most of the time the one getting punched just drops to the ground or just makes a halfassed “oof” sound, but this is legit, I’ve actually seen dudes get socked in the gut and have all the wind knocked out of them to the point they’re clenching their stomach and snorting

The joy of their writing is that they know Chekov's Gun too well. They know if they introduce anything, it has to have a meaningful payoff. After listening to the interview, Zach is 100% right when he says most adult animations these days don't seem to respect the art. Everything's so stiff nowadays. Smiling Friends isn't a fluid masterpiece, but you can tell they care about how the animations flow. From Mip, to 3D Squelton, to Jeremy... It's the little things that count. Well, Mip was pretty big.
@mercury21572 жыл бұрын
I feel like the only three golden exceptions would be Invincible (although it would've benefitted from a bigger budget), Castlevania, and Primal, but those are all action series and one is based on a video game so I would EXPECT them to respect the medium
@DimT6702 жыл бұрын
The stiffness is a result of genre not anything else. Ofc a series thats essentialy a sitcom but animated will be stiffer. Why wouldn't it be. And ofc a series that relies on the visual and the animation to tell the joke will be more fluid
@viewerguy102 жыл бұрын
Lol that must explain why family guy was more fluid 20 years ago. It just changed its genre. Putting no effort into your animation is all part of the genre!
@mrglibb2 жыл бұрын
@@mercury2157 Anything made by Genndy Tartakovsky is going to be a masterpiece in the medium so let's not forget the recent revival of Samurai Jack. Quite a few episodes of Star Wars: Visions, such as the one by Studio TRIGGER, are explosive showcases in the potential of animation to surpass the bounds of believability that exist within other visual media. Though some would considder it cheating to bring a Disney movie in the mix given their reputation for quality I would argue that their movies up until Moana had been losing the spark that differentiates moving pictures from expressive, animated worlds; but is that Encanto I hear thundering over the horizon, coming to remind everyone just how much emotion can be poured into the facial expressions, movements and voice acting when you have a Disney budget behind you? Let's not even get started on Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse... Animation has, in my opinion, for the last few years been experiencing a renaissance akin to the dawn of a new golden age, fuelled by an influx of talented and passionate youngsters being guided on projects by veteran masters of the craft like Genndy Tartakovsky. We're seeing the big western studios pour more work and money into animation quality than many eastern ones again for the first time in a long while, the cartoon is making a comeback as the medium of choice for adult animated content. All in all I'm beyond excited for the near future of animation and if you're a fan of the medium you have every reason to be excited too.
@kingcrimson41332 жыл бұрын
Yeah, for the most part, it's actually _children's_ animation where most of the creativity and art exists in Western animation today. Most adult animation is trying to cash in on the current popularity of a sort of irreverent, devil-may-care cynicism that teenagers seem to think is the funniest thing ever. Adventure Time during its runtime had more profound and thoughtful messages about life and what it means to live it than Rick and Morty ever has.
