The Soul Gem's design is a reference to the Philosopher's Stone from Fullmetal Alchemist, however, it's first mention come from a real world greco-egyptian magical papirus.

I’m so glad that someone finally decided to pay attention to the lore and easter eggs of the game, cause I feel like for the most part mythology and lore were the main deciding factor for majority of the players when choosing smite over other mobas

As someone who is a part of the IORUBÁ religion also known as CANDOMBLÉ here in Brazil, it warms my heart to see hirez shining a light on it. The religion was born in Africa hundreds of year ago and was passed, changed, interpret and modified in many ways. OLORUM is the creator of everything, including the universe and life itself. And yes we don't even mention his name nor can we begin to understand his magnitude. The ORIXÁS (SAINTS in Portuguese) are the ones we culture, they are OLURUNS creation and path to us. There are so many i could not list them all. My part of the religion comes from ANGOLA, we have 16 orixás Yemoja being one of them. Every person has a orixá on there had, someone who guides them and shapes them. Mine funny enough is Yemoja and nsumbo (the orixá of health and sickness, prosperity and misery, know to have taken all the sickness from earth and carried to the deep, dying on the process and emerging with all the cures) I could be here all day... But one last thing, remember how small we are, and how there is always someone or something magnitudes greater than us. "I know that i know nothing" Acknowledging your ignorance is a virtue.

I also love how many of the characters referenced by other gods or items could very well join the game in future updates. People like Sekhmet (potentially as a stance dancer with Hathor?), Odysseus, Nut, Nephthys, even Asclepius would be super cool to eventually see in Smite.

I find Aphrodite and Vulcan's lines to be somewhat humorous, since in the actual lore, Greek and Roman exist at the same time. When Greek and Roman Gods interact with each other, they refer to one another by their own respective pantheon equivalent. For example, in the Pantheon War book, Athena refers to Mercury as "Hermes" and Mercury refers to Athena as "Minerva". Neither of them correct the other and know exactly who they're talking to. Then again, Hercules still refers to Hades as such in-game, rather than calling him "Pluto". Same with Apollo to Mercury. And Classic Athena to Vulcan.

The Cthulhu and Heimdall interaction is also a nod to the ingame lore as well.

There is also the ring of Hecate and it’s relation to the Greek Goddess of witchcraft and necromancy Hecate

You forgot Bancroft's Talon and Brawler's Beatstick. Both referencing Hi-rez former game called "Global Agenda". Bancroft was a character in that game, while Beatstick was an item you needed to get from an enemy called "Brawler".

These are really neat. It just shows how deep the creators go into connecting the myths for their vision. I do hope to get more direct banter and taunts as the game goes on, especially if its cross pantheon stuff like Cthulhu and Heimdalr where its kind of appropriate.

I kinda want Tamamo-no-Mae as a goddess in game for lore interactions like this. Da Ji is said to have been possessed by Tamamo before becoming Emperor Zhou's concubine, hence why she was a tyrant during her reign. According to legends after she fled to india, then back to japan and brought down two more emperors before being pursued and imprisoning herself in a rock. Lore wise it could make for really funny interactions between Da Ji and Tamamo where Da Ji accuses Tamamo of having brought the end of her rule, with Tamamo refutes her claim sarcastically. Tamamo and Yu Huang might have a dialogue where she attempts to seduce him, only to be met with a flat no. Assuming there are or will be any indian gods in game she can have some unique interactions with them considering she comes from outside their pantheon yet would still have interacted with them accordin to her legend. Regarding her as a god I'd really like her to be like Da Ji as a mage, but also some unique. For instance applying a burn or wisps on her basic attacks, but having a bit lower scaling and or a debuff like the next ability the afflicted enemy uses has an added 1 second of cd not reducable by cdr.

So, about the Ares and being beat by a girl, dont think about it cause much like most early smite gods, its a very poor portrayal. From what we can tell, ares probably wouldn't feel bad about being beaten by a girl, given the respect he has for Hera, and would probably be more butt hurt about losing to his sister specifically. Also, Athens made most the writing, they had their own war god. Sparta had a cooler war god. You can probably see why in alot of writing ares is a joke. But yea, its equating hyper agressive male god to toxic masculinity. Sparta cared more about women anyway. Also, typhon was beaten by zues, but not after doing a number on him back, even ripping out his tendons and throwing him and the tendons in a cave. Eww. When he was defeated, in some myths he a mountain was thrown on him, to which his anger caused it to become a volcano.
