I have carried a 5 shot .38 snubbed for 30 years. Never needed more. In that time I had to present only twice. ( I have never wanted so much not to have to do something! ) In each case I was confident if the offender would not have expediently changed their mind I have not doubt I could have made their melon look like a moose rack. I have never felt under gunned. A number of years ago I discovered the charter arms south paw. and there was no looking back. I personally believe the wheel guns are real guns and real men and women carry them. I have nothing against auto loaders. I have some. But they have their place. in a real fecal matter slamming into the oscillating blades scenario. my snubbed and my old pump action 12 gauge would see it through. But I digress. Cheers well done video.

The wife’s 637 dropped an elk out of her garden a few years back. Only a 20 foot shot from the kitchen window, and the elk did make it about 30-40 feet before collapsing. Best excuse I’ve ever had for leaving work early.

its one of those things that is way to hard to believe but life is strange and each day only gets more so with what we deal with and you never know what we will wake up to but i full heartedly do believe that something like your story did in fact occur hell that would be a random ass thing to make up and comment on a video that youll see once

@@shotgunslinger7386 When we had the camp at Apache Cliffs, we used to kinda laugh at the hunters who would spend thousands on elk hunting trips. You could wake up early on any given morning and have a half dozen in the yard. Fruit trees and succulent plants didn’t stand a chance unless you surrounded them with rolled fencing. Pain in the butt. But come about seven A.M., they would all disappear like ghosts. Just like any other nuisance critter, you get one who figures out a trick. An elk isn’t a particularly tough creature. Any bullet that can penetrate seven or eight inches just enough to pop a hole in the heart will do the trick.

true that man shot placement is everything and 38 spl is still used for edc for a reason but i just imagine my girlfriend just ripping a 38 at a deer in my yard after reading your story and man i wish i could have seen it that must have been one of the best flex you have on all your friend " yeah my wife just killed an elk with this 38" what does your wife do lol idk but still id love to see something like that @@blackhawk7r221

"Ignore the hype" is great advice. I carried one of these snubbies on my ankle as a backup for 30 years as a police officer. They do what they're made to do. Nothing wrong with the micro nines or any other gun that you're comfortable carrying; the important thing is to have it there if you need it and not in your glove compartment or at home in a drawer. I have a lot of guns, but I still find myself carrying the snubbie .38 a lot. Thanks for the video!

98% of the hype doesn't understand how bullets stop a threat in the first place. Two things: Place in the right location, penetrate deeply while tearing up tissue. How one achieves these two things, it can be done in a thousand combinations and that takes real thinking. It can be done with a snubby .38, it can be done with a Howitzer. It can be done with a .32 S&W Short. It can be done with a .500 S&W Mag. The issue is all terminal ballistics (penetration and hemorrhaging), ignore all the rest.

I also carry a 638. I swapped out the rubber grips for factory s&w wood grips and had a gunsmith remove the internal lock. I recommend bianci speed strips. There a little slower on the reload but it's a lot easier to carry two of those as apposed to carrying a five shot speed loader.. in my opinion at least Plus I personally feel like I'm less likely to fumble with a speed strip do to their shape and size. I recommend buying the 6 shot speed strips as apposed to the five shot version because you can load three on one side of the strip and two on the other with a space in between for your finger.. it tends to give a better purchase 👍

And bekieve it or not at 25 yards i but 4 of the rounds just outside oof the bulls eye. And the 5th round was dead center. Iove it, and I wouldn't need anything else for protection. 😊

A word of caution for those of you who have a 637-2 and use a speed loader. The factory rubber grips are nice on this gun, but the HKS36 speed loader will not work properly with this grip because it rubs against the speed loader and prevents you from loading the cartridges into the cylinder easily. You can make it work, but you have to fight it, not ideal for a self defense gun. I replaced the factory grip with a Hogue Bantam I had lying around and now my speed loader functions fine. Be sure to test any speed loader you use for this issue.

I own a S&W 442, 642, 637, and a Taurus 605 357. I've had several of the new polymer wonders but finally sold them all. I practice with my revolvers. That is the key to being confident. I'm confident I can protect myself and family with any one of my wheel guns. Remember, most defensive situations are 3 to 10 feet, 3 seconds and 3 shots (not 10, 11, or 15 rounds). Most civilians will never see a real fire fight and use multiple rounds.

Loves me some snubbies. LCRx in .357mag kind of bucks the hand pretty good, but it's not bone-breaking. That said, I have a two-part philosophy with snubbies: Airweights or LCR with 1.8" barrels and less than 17oz or so, the .38 Special is what should be used for better multi-shot handling due to non-magnum recoil. These can be carried in a pocket, purse, or ankle holster easily. In fact the power to weight/size ratio on these is better than any bottom-feeder. When one considers the range of bullet weights and effective penetration without all the brutal recoil, the .38 special is much more versatile than the 9mm. The 20oz+ snubbies with 2" up to 3" barrels in .357mag chambering are more suitable for belt/main carry. In fact the magnum loads should be run in a heavier revolver to be more controllable. Pocket carry is not really suitable for the 20oz+ snubs, just too much sag and bulk.
