Both are really nice revolvers. I recently picked up a blued round butt 1949 M&P Pre-Model 10. It actually came with pre-war service style grips that look fantastic. The thing that I love about the early guns like this are the half round front sight. That look is so classic on snub nose revolvers, and just makes me think of a police detective gun. I already had a blued and nickel square butt Pre-Model 10, so I was very happy to be able to get a round butt one too! They are all from 1949 and the serial numbers are pretty close together.

If you don't have a Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, it's worth the buy. 4th Ed is the current I believe. Has all kinds of cool info and it gives you history and serial number year ranges for each model.

I have both of those snubbies. nice guns. and I don't care if we have seen one of them before. because I never get tired of seeing them.

I have a model 15 I bought in 1977. 4" barrel with target hammer and trigger. $140 out the door with 50 rounds of wadcutters. Brand new. Still have it.

My first duty-issued handgun in the 1980's was the S&W Model 15 Combat Masterpiece 4" barrel. It was an excellent revolver and was sad to see it go when we tranistioned to semi-autos.

Good looking S&W’s! I’ve got a 10-5 snub w/original box. Great pistol. I had a 15 to, sold it for a 66-2 snub. Figured if I wanted a full size K frame with adjustable sights I might as well have one that can shoot .357.

You don’t need an adjustable rear sight on snub nose revolvers. They are not target guns. So I choose the Model 10 with the fixed rear sight.

I would love to get a 2" model 15. i have 10 and 12 plus a 19. But a 15 would round out my collection.

Adjustable rear sight, and square but frame. The only difference in ur 15/10. The service grip on ur 15 appears not original. The coloring/stain should be a lighter oak brown.
