How is it these guys aren't mentioned with the same respect as The Replacements and The Cult when it comes to 80's "alternative" guitar bands with great lyrics?

True
@scottgrimes12875 ай бұрын
I never considered them alternative. But I went up to the singer of a cover band once ....all black and leather....did a lot like Social Distortion, Cult....."why dont you cover them?" He was like....."You know...they would be great .....we just ...hadn't thought them......" Next few times, they were playing them.

It is kind of weird that they seem to get forgotten. But, I don't think anyone even mentions The Replacements anymore, either. The Cult had a bigger international level of fame, but I never see anything about them mentioned.

I think it may be because compared to the other alternative bands of the time, The Smithereens’ music was very basic and rudimentary. Not to say it’s bad, far the fuck from it, but it’s just simpler compared to the other big bands.

I think the smithereens, the gin blossoms and toad the wet sprocket sounds similar in how their music is arranged, I would put the replacement with bands like the gas light anthem in terms of music arrangement

I saw The Smithereens around this time at the Arlington Theater in Indianapolis. After the show, the band did a few encores, then left the stage for about 20 minutes. After most of the crowd left, the band came back and played requested cover songs for about two hours. Loud as hell!

This is truly great guitar pop rock. Saw them live in the early 90’s and they simply blew the place away. Great show. I used to love to go on long road trips with their music blasting. Blessings.

not so much underrated as the fact that when this song came out, 80s metal was going out and grunge was taking over ..... I remember this song coming out , didn't get the radio play in favor of a Nirvana and other 90s grunge bands
