Very cool. I'd love to see more "damaged" gear pull tested. Always good to be cautious, but nice to know what is truly sketch and what is super good enough.

i'd be more concerned about the unknown 'cleaning' process… we were taught to clean parachutes and harnesses with warm water and a minimum of mild detergent (i use dish soap - like that used to rescue birds caught in oil spills), and hang/air dry in well ventilated dark or shade (FAA licensed parachute technician)

Same here. If the gear was obviously heat damaged, I'd of course bin it. Smoke.... my intuition, and years of science at uni, makes me feel safe that smoke alone won't hurt polymers or metals.....

Thank you for the content, always interesting to see real tests and not just the Information written into the manual. Your channel should have A LOT more upvotes! PS: It was a bit creepy that this guy had exactly the same equipment as me

You're not pulling on the gear in the intended design. Every pull test should have one side being the loop the belay loop runs through against the hip strap or leg loops respectively. Otherwise your just doing a will it blend video....

As a big waller, i will rappel and have a haul bag under me pulling the belay loop being pulled like I pull it in this video. Sometimes we blend stuff in the wild and I like to see it blended.

I should have clarified. The isolated belay loop pull was fine. The pull on the leg straps should be done so the stitching is pulled in line, not perpendicular. Clip both leg loops, pull on attachment point for belay loop. The hip belt should be pulled on the attachment point for the belay loop against the back padding area. Of course there isn’t a KN rating to compare to your results to, but at least make an effort to load them somewhat realistically. Do what you want, but if you say you can’t just skip the BS and throw it in a blender.

@@taxustreeservice166 You're right, the leg loop is never tested by a lab or used in real life the way i tested it. That is "blender testing". I think the edutainment of pulling on gear helps people understand how things are constructed when they see that. I'm working on a jib that would test harnesses like they do to certify them. I'd be more clear in a main channel video about that too.
