This guy was actually originally suppose to be named Grapple, but Hasbro didn't have the name rights. In Micron Legends, he was called Grap and Hoist was Grap Super Mode.

I don't mind this guy, but I will admit that he can be hard to keep standing up because of that crane arm/Longarm Launcher.

Yeah he's dumpy and weird but I just can't stay mad at him. He's not a warrior, he's just a wide dude who was in construction. And the missing heels aren't so bad if you use the cannon to weigh him forward.

He needs a modern reimagining, quick!

Liftor looks one of the insecticons in vehicle mode.

i actually still want this figure, and not because the minicon, i mean THIS FIGURE, yeah, it may lack articulation, proportion, detail, fun factor, but for some reason i really want it

I had this as a kid it was my favorite transformers of the Armada line next to Sideways.

So smokescreen's minicon gimic is the predecessor to animated shockwave/longarm crane cannon.

I still have this one, He's one of the only ones I have left after all my other ones got sold... This one and the Dark star saber team.

I used to have Smokescreen when I was little, and the only thing I can find of him is the upper half of Liftor.

I´ve always liked this toy, don´t ask me why.

this guy was always my favourite, whenever my family took a long car journey, i always took these two

It's a very "kids friendly" figure though, my nephew used to love it, and some Armada and ENERGON figures have high playability for children (gimmicks, bright colours, simple transformation), but lack the appeal for older collectors, who prefer potability, and a certain aesthetic. Also, Smokescreen has some wonderful detailing on the cairn, and I think Liftor isn't so much rocket powered as much as those look like oddly placed smoke stacks.

I like that you are doing these older figure reviews. There were some interesting toys from the Armada line and I liked the mini cons

Yeah, he's not a great toy, but he made an excellent Christmas present for my five year old cousin (sans Minicon and working winch gimmick) for Christmas a few years ago. He loved that guy. ^_^

I love this guy. One of my favs, even bought the Universe two pack with his blue repaint. Nice review man.

The Minicon reminded me of Huffer with its robot mode. Granted, it might be an homage to the grumpy Autobot after he sustained a racketball injury, what with the eyepatch.

Marking for both of this toys, after watching this Baltmatrix's video review on them (my personal preference) : Smokescreen (3 or 4-); Liftor (5+);

You forgot to show the winch gimmick in vehicle mode. When you push him forward,the winch actually winds back up,which is nice since you don't need to manually wind it up.

i remembered going to walmart and wanting this figure because i thought it looked cool in the booklet they used to give with the toys and my dad said i should get hoist because i could play with it in the dirt i did not know smokescreen was upgraded to hoist because i had not cable and was still new to the internet so i didnt know you could watch videos on it so i ended up with smokescreen

the hook gimmick is cool, i like his look in both modes (the hands thing though!!) and love the way his head turns with the crane arm! cheap and cute, like maybe the oldest Rescue Bot ever?

Besides Unicron and a bunch of Minicons, this was my only Armada toy growing up

You know a lot of people say that Armada's Hotshot with Jolt is the worst Toy in said toyline. But I say NO! Smokescreen is easily the worst. Very little posability, as he doesn't have elbows or knees, he ungodly top heavy, as that crane of his can cause him to tip over, in which it also doesn't help that his crane can extend and turn into a gun, which makes him more top heavy, AND he has no heels to support his weight and balance. The only good thing about Smokescreen is his minicon patner Liftor, as he as the best posability of any mincon I've ever seen/owned.

Smokescreen makes me think of G1 Grapple. He jusf needs to be yellow with black details, and there is Grapple.

Smoke screen doesn’t fit him in g1 smoke screen was a good name because he could drive fast and make smoke. Now in armada it make no sense for his name to be smoke screen How about grapple
