i got into music because of my dad. back in his prime days, he plays guitar, he sings, and he smoke a lot of cigs. now he's 66, his voice is still the same, he can still sing but with uncontrollable coughs every 5 seconds for 2 minutes. so yeah everyone who advocates "smoking doesnt affect voice", yeah i guess they were right.
@RadJordy9 ай бұрын
I understand not wanting to quit, but deluding yourself into thinking that smoking doesn't affect your voice in the face of facts to the contrary is just coping. I vaped, then smoked, then vaped again, and when I quit, I noticed that it was a lot easier to hit notes and hold them (at least when singing in the car). I'm back to vaping again, but I would like to quit at some point because I want to take care of my voice and get into singing/voiceover more seriously. So thanks for making this video, it gave me something to think about.

Ay man keep it up I cold turkey’d about 3 weeks ago (tomorrow actually being 3 weeks) I was hitting carts a shit ton daily non stop. Like I was smoking carts like they were vapes basically and it was fucking up my voice as well and I was so fucked up constantly I was having issues speaking and I was afraid of losing basic motor skills like talking and shit so I quit. Still going strong and don’t have any plans to go back. Hopefully this helps someone or convinces someone to quit smoking as well. For those who are having issues quitting y’all got this! and don’t go back just take shit one step at a time.

Some smokers refuse to believe the smoke has any downsides

1) People overestimate their singing abilities (I was like this too), if you're mediocre at best, whether you smoke or not won't change much 2) Many pop/rap artists are mediocre singers at best , there are many outliers but as a whole it's accurate 3) Short term effects of smoking: shortness of breath, itchy/sore throat and more 4) Long term effects of smoking: you die. and also you're more prone to vocal nodules and other cool shit Banger video btw

You can get better at singing, and smoking do change your voice to worse.

Let me be dead serious here. I had both my lungs collapse, I had to get surgery on both of them, one after the other, because the surgery itself is too traumatizing on the body to have them both operated on simultaneously. The trauma that those surgeries and the collapses put me through basically ruined my life for the last 4 years. I got hooked on Oxy, then mixed Oxy with alcohol, then used coke as a intermediary for Oxy when I couldn’t get it. I never even drank outside of the occasional house party beforehand. The collapses felt like I got shot, the trauma that subsequently followed has made me feel like I want to shoot myself. Before my lungs collapsed I was working on music for over 24 hours at a time, smoking weed, and vaping. Since I was only 20-22 at the time, I felt invincible. Completely out of the blue, while recording, the first collapse nearly killed me, and I’d never wish that pain on my worst enemy. It was my fault, I pushed myself way too hard. And I lost a hell of a lot of time that I’ll never get back due to my own hubris. I struggle seriously with substance now, I still smoke, (not as much, but goddamn is it stupid I do at all) It’s not just that you’ll lose a lot of your power behind your vocals, the trauma from major medical events will absolutely change you, and not for the better. Take care of yourselves. Edits: clarity, kinda hard to talk about this as I have huge gaps in my memory now. Proofreading a few times helps bring things back into focus.

the whole reason i stopped smoking was because my memory was getting so shit. im so sorry about your experience and i wish u the absolute best. your story is powerful and hella real

Smoking is bad my G... I sang way better before I started smoking... smoking now forces me to go above and beyond, but as a man close to leaving that shit I'd say this, don't let your enjoyment of something distort the reality of what is. Stay safe.

back again after i got very positive feedback on my last comment, im a very heavy smoker. i constantly vape the ever living life out of my alto and have been hooked ever since i was 16-17 years old and started hitting my homies box mods every now and again just to later on finally get enough money to get my own. i also toke on the green stuff a lot more than i should cuz w adhd i was on adderall for basically my whole childhood up to high school and didnt wanna take it anymore so i used weed to help me quit for good and i havent touched a pill in almost 7 years now and im hoping to one day say the same for nicotine and weed cuz im 24 and starting to get burnt out from it altogether mentally. anyways smoking can alter your voice completely if you are not careful, especially if you are someone who likes to drink liquor.

I'm not even tryna sing but I still fucking want to quit cigarettes because that shit affects you in way more ways than you might think. Less motivation, less energy, less focus, smell like shit, costs a fuck ton of money, and does basically nothing for you. This is all besides the obvious risks of cancer because everyone has known the health risks since the age of like 4. tldr nice video

well i dont deny that smoking is bad but i asume it depends on how frequent you smoke, and as you said, you smoked fucking everyday and it was fucking up your voice but there are other people that just smoke once a week or month which the body recovers, like when you feel tired and just go to sleep and then next day you feel energetic, im not endorsing smoking, i just wanna give another option as to why some singers still have a clean non-smoking voice. plus other obvious options like autotune and musical technology

It sucks. You're in pain when you lay down an try to find a comfortable position, your throat starts to feel the effects more an more from smoking, your voice becomes compete 💩 struggling to hit a note, your more heavy an harsh with pronunciation, you start to become more out of tune with your natural voice on a daily, it causes your breathing to become restrain an suppressed, you struggle to speak correctly and the addiction increases.😒
