Merry Christmas!
On a cold and rainy December 23, former White Pass & Yukon Route 70 was hauling its final trainloads of guests before the Christmas Holiday began. Having been in the shop for most of the 2018 season, the 1930 mikado was in top shape to handle the heavy loads that come with the Christmas season, complete with a new LED headlamp and a shiny new White Pass inspired paint scheme. As darkness fell on the last night before the holiday, the park came to life with hundreds of thousands of Christmas lights across every available surface. The main attraction of this year's Smoky Mountain Christmas was the new Glacier Ridge, an extensive makeover of Timber Canyon and Wilderness Pass into an Arctic wonderland, which I'm sure made "Cinderella" feel right at home.
Unfortunately, the park has recently instituted a new rule severely restricting the use of the locomotive's whistle after complaints that the train is disruptive to the park's shows. There is a silver lining, however - we get to hear more of the engine's bark as it climbs the mountain!
