To understand what is happening in Kai's "Mmmh" MV, you have to keep in mind EXO's storyline and concept. Yet again, Kai's EXO superpower is teleportation, so what you see throughout his "Mmmh" MV is him teleporting. For example, why you see Kai move a fraction of a frame in the scene when his backup dancers "disappeared," is because they didn't disappear. Kai was the one that moved when he teleported from another time or place at that moment. In other words, he was a fraction of a second off on purpose to show that he was the one moving as he teleported, not the dancers. With what I know about EXO's storyline, nothing is ever random, and even the most minute of details have been designed to give clues and hints within EXO's story. So, even the subtle little details that you might overlook -- such as placing Kai in that shot a fraction of a second off -- could actually be done intentionally. In the scene at the very end of the MV, what I think we are seeing is SM connecting Kai's solo storyline to EXO's storyline. We see D.O.'s power of earth (dirt) which gives him super strength/force and Xiumin's power to control snow/ice/frost being used. We also see what I think is the emergence of a pyramid, which represents Kai and his superpower -- if you remember, as part of EXOs storyline, all the members have a symbol that represents them. A pyramid is Kai's symbol and when we see a pyramid within EXO's storyline it represents something to do with Kai. I also find it interesting that Xiumin returned from the military about a month before this MV was released, and D.O. just returned from the military shortly after its release, so the end scene in "Mmmh" may be SM's way of connecting the events of this MV to D.O.'s and Xiumin's future solo work as well. If you analyse all the scenes within Kai's MV you would find connections can be made to EXO's storyline and things to do with past EXO MVs and probably even future MVs, as well as SuperM's storyline. As you know, Kai is also a member of SuperM, the Kpop industry's first Supergroup that is made up of members from EXO, SHINee and NCT/WayV. SuperM's concept is that they are "The Avengers of Kpop," and the members are supposed to be superhero-like characters who are coming together to form an Avengers-like group to help EXO defeat the evil Red Force. And, like the majority of SM's groups, all of their storylines and concepts intertwin and connect. For example, in SuperM's "One (Monster & Infinity)" MV, we see Kai being chased by or being aided by drones as he tries to scale a building, in his attempt to stop the Red Force. So, I think the scene in "Mmmh," where you see him looking at the drones hovering around him, has something to do with connections between Kai's solo storyline and SuperM/EXO's MVs. Also, Kai means opening, as in a door or gateway, so as a member of EXO, Kim JongIn (Kai) was given the stage name Kai because, as the center of the group, he is supposed to be the member who connects everyone together and that is why he was given the ability to teleport. Plus, as part of EXO's storyline, it is thought that the members are traveling between dimensions and time periods throughout history in their quest to find the Tree of Life and to fix all the evil and corruption that is thought to be caused by the Red Force. So, it is thought that what you see in Kai's MV is him traveling between dimensions and across time periods in his search. That is why you see him in so many different locations and scenes in this MV. There is also a fan theory that the reason why we see Kai with so many different looks and styles in these scenes is because it's not always Kai that we are seeing. Another part of EXO's storyline is that some of the members have evil alter ego clones that have been created by the Red Force. (As we see introduced in EXO's "Obsession" MV.) So, some theories think that sometimes we are seeing Kai's evil X-EXO clone and other times we are seeing superhero, good EXO Kai. And that eye we see in this MV, although I am not sure what it means yet, I think it's connected to the eye we see in other SM MVs, such as EXO Lay's solo "Namanana" MV and aespa's "Savage" MV, and maybe even the eye symbol and closeup of the dragon's eye in Lay's solo "Lit" MV. And it even looks like it could be connected to the eye we see in SHINee Key's solo "Gasoline" and "Killer" MVs. The eyes all look slightly different, but I think they are supposed to be a symbol that connects something within the larger storyline of SM's SM Culture Universe. The eye might be what the evil forces -- such as the Red Force in EXO's storyline, or the Black Mamba or whomever the new villain is in aespa's storyline -- are using to spy on everyone within SM's SM Culture Universe, which could be a metaphor for how big brother government is always watching and is in control. It also could be why we see the EXO members smashing mirrors, surveillance cameras and TVs, etc. in EXO's "Coming Over" MV. All of the EXO members' first solo songs have something to do with the fact that they are members of EXO, and their MVs and songs show them using their powers. As you have seen, Xiumin's solo debut "Brand New" MV, shows him using his power of frost, D.O.'s MV for his solo debut song "Rose" shows him using his power of force, Baekhyun's debut album City Lights and MV "UN Village" talks about his power to control light, Suho's "Let's Love" MV shows him with his power to control water, and Kai teleports all over in his "Mmmh" MV. As the first EXO member to have a solo career, the majority of Lay's solo MVs tie into EXO's storyline as well. "Mmmh" is the lead track on Kai's solo debut self-titled mini album, Kai, which came out in 2020. There are 6 songs on this album. To hear the rest of the songs, check out his epic "Film: Kai" video, which was created to give viewers a sample of all of the tracks on his album. Fun fact: Peaches, and peach trees in particular, symbolize immortality in Korean culture and the modern take on traditional Korean clothing that Kai wears in his "Peaches" MV seems to symbolize that he is an immortal being that plans to continue his journey for many more years with no plans of stopping. I have also heard that images with everything to do with this MV and comeback content reference things to do with traditional Korean folktales, so Koreans, and those that know Korean culture, would understand some of the references and stories he is referring to. I'm also fairly certain that there are also things in this video that can be connected to EXO's storyline, however, I haven't made any solid connections yet. The title of this song and album is stylized as "Peaches^2" because this is Kai's second solo album. I guess it's SM's new style, they put the album number in the title of the album. Peaches is a mini album with 6 tracks. If you want a sample of the other songs on this album, check out his "Peaches Prologue Film." The prologue film is similar to Kai's "Film: Kai," which is a sample of all his songs on his album. If you are impressed with his dancing, you should check out Kai's dance practice video for "Peaches."

Miss Kai! Kai’s Mmmmh was my first EXO Solo experience and I was blown away! The way he can move his body! I was envious at first because I had started learning dance in my childhood and had to stop due to a hip fracture and never went back to it. Then I just started enjoying him! Peaches just made me realize how versatile he actually is and his voice is one of my favorites! To me it’s just so velvety smooth! Mmmmh being his first solo he relied more on others for concept and costume design and everything but he had more input or sole input in most of the Peaches MV and album. Vanilla MV also is a must watch. It has other worldly vibes. Both the KAI:Films are also a no skip. He put in a little bit of choreography and video for all his songs for each of his albums-Mmmh and Rover.

Kai’s vocals with the first album was a revelation to everyone since he was always singled out for his dance skills and visuals with EXO. I have heard D.O. say a few times in the past that the voice he likes best in the group is Kai’s coz it is like honey, but i could not perceive it properly until his solo album. He indeed has a honey sound that is impossible to get bored at. You must react to all his three albums because they are gold. Every song is amazing.

He know what things will compliment his voice then go into that direction, and i think that's why he's very enjoyable. Seeing ppl who fully know what they want to and then make it work is so satisfying. i'd like to mention the unique timeline of 3 mvs : Mmmh - futuristic Peaches - traditional element Rover - modern (present time) Oh and overall kai is very passionated and participated with his solo project. He choose his own dancers for mmmh, peaches going throught 19 revision, he participating in ideas of style clothing in his mvs, making sure the mv set is good, even for FILM : KAI he inserted his own money to fund it so there's no budgeting issue that limit overall project. As a group member who goes solo, he can simply focus just on the music and overall theme but nope (guess it's bcs he's also more lean into performance aspect). Like there's film : kai prologue for peaches with snippet of 1 song (cause he didn't have time to include all song) and he shoot for 17 hours. So how long it take for OG film kai (with 6 songs) to shoot?

In Peaches, Kai was wearing a modern variation of traditional Korean wear, called a Hanbok.

I’ve been waiting for this, Pierre!!! Peaches was such a wonderful title track. The mv is so beautiful and decorated with historical references. Super cool sets, beautiful historically inspired outfits, and of course Kai’s smooth, velvety voice. Mmmh was a cultural RESET!!! It was the hero we didn’t know we needed in 2020 at the peak of lockdown. The visuals in the music video are so awesome and invoke a future-dystopia feeling. Both songs are at the opposite ends of the smooth rnb spectrum!! Once again, loving your analysis of how the songs are constructed and what makes them special/interesting.
