Reeves had already sung at some blues clubs in Detroit when a Motown headhunter named Mickey Stevenson heard her sing and told her to audition for Motown. A young Martha Reeves abandoned everything for being a secretary in this new music label. During her time as a secretary for Mickey Stevenson, Reeves learnt a lot about the industry, until Berry Gordy, the man behind the Jackson 5, changes her destiny. Joy, love and music are what Reeves remember from the time she started with Motown.

This interview is AMAZING. I had never heard Martha Reeves speak before and I'm so impressed with her intelligence and poise. She reveals so much about her career and happily takes us back to the 60's. I wish other artists could be so open and honest. I clung to every word here and didn't want her to stop.

Geat interview! Thanks Martha for all the history. ❤ I Love Martha & the vandellas and the fabulous Marvettes..Your songs do make us get up and move; even in 2021....so sad that they could not have been given the same attention as the Supremes. Surely they could have been given small roles in Diana's movies. But NO... they were abandoned to sink into oblivion.. Motown music ....Funk Bros.. Dozier/Holland team and all involved were the greatest ever and should all be recognized as such and ALL should be multi millionaires like BERRY, SMOKY & DIANA.. Rant Over...I love Motown..

I LOVES ME SOME Martha Reeves and she's always been the best looking ladies of Motown! My favorites are DANCING IN THE STREET, NOWHERE TO RUN, NO ONE THERE and LOVE GUESS WHO. I just wish her voice was as good as it was in the 60's or at least how it was on her Arista LP "The Rest Of My Life"! Just some mighty good singing! I'm grateful that I can look up her old performances on KZfaq.

Great interview. Love the way the interviewer sounds so casual and not formal or fussy in the least. Many fans probably would say "Dancing in the Streets" (I always hated the rock remake of that one) was her greatest vocal but I've always felt it was "Heat Wave". She really tore it up on that one! I have a wonderful 2-CD copy of their greatest singles 1962-1972. Some of the lesser known cuts are still my favorites. The track "(We've Got) Honey Love" should've been a Top 10 in my opinion. As for "Live Wire" that could perfectly describe the lady herself!

Thank you, Martha! I used to sneak into the 20 Grand when I was a teenager. I saw the Dells and the Funk Brothers played for them. They turned it out. By this time (the late 60s/earlly 70s) Martha was a star and the 20 Grand was on its last legs. Thank you for these stories. Martha and the Vandellas was the best female group at Motown bar none. No other girl group could out sing them. I like all the other female groups at Motown, but no other female group had chops like M and V.

It was so wonderful to hear Ms Martha Speak. I enjoyed listening to her in 60's 1960---I were 10years old. I am traveling through the 60's. I heard terrific music at 10-19 years old. Elementary-High School. How amazing hearing Motown sounds!!! Hearing about Berry Gordy, Smokey Robinson, Temptations, Barry White, Ice Man Mr. Jerry Butler, Marvelettes, So many Groups. Gladys Knight and the Pips, Marvin Gay, Four Tops,Stevie Wonder. Right now I'm just naming other people that was with Mr. Berry Gordy or group probably wasn't with Motown. Down through the years Great Music 🎶 🎵 a lot of them grew old and died but their songs are in the Hearts 💕 💞 of Many. RIP!!!
