I'm interested in this compared to the Aune S9c in specific ways: 1. Representation of air frequencies, which is more ethereal and airy? 2. Which has better punch and rumble in the low-end? 3. Which has better soundstage depth and layering? 4. Which is better for driving Hifiman planars? (I'm going to be using the Arya Organic with one, perhaps even the HE1000se) 5. Which has more warmth/sweetness, especially in vocals? Thank you in advance for reading and answering.

Hii . 1. S9C is more airy, DO400 is smoother 2. S9c has a stronger punch in the low end thanks to better dynamics 3. S9c sounds wider and more holographic 4. S9c has more driving power and more control with He1000SE (using them most of the time) 5. DO400 is warmer in the voices, it has a warmer overall tonality, S9c is fairly neutral there Hope thjis helps!

@@AudiophileHeaven Thank you for replying. I was hoping that the S9c wouldn't sound dry. I understand that the S9c sounds more holographic, but what about depth, like does the stage extend more in front? If the DO400 sounds warmer, than I suppose that also might hurt its clarity compared to the S9c.

@@yamato1420 Yep, DO400 is not quite as clear as S9C. The sound on S9C is deeper, not more dry, but brighter overall

Thanks for the review. Does SMSL Do400 work on Android? I'm thinking of connecting it via USB to my Android phone and playing my songs through USB Audio Player Pro app? But, I haven't seen anything regarding Android compatibility on the webpages for Do400.

To be honest, most of the DACs work with some phones, but don't with others. S23 Ultra should work with an OTG connector, but I can't test othger phones...

@@AudiophileHeaven I contacted Aoshida about this and they said that "the USB is used for computer decoding, we recommend connecting the smart phone via Bluetooth." This really puts me off. Have you tried the DO400 with Galaxy S23 Ultra? What do you suggest I should do? Should I go with another dac-amp so as to connect it to my phone?

Despite the fact that I keep songs locally on my phone, I don't listen to music on the go and I wanted something that doesn't need battery and charging, that's why I'm looking for a desktop dac/amp. I just find it easier to listen to music from my phone as the source rather than my laptop. I saw Fiio K9 AKM has an additional USB-C port on the side which is advertised for connecting to your phone, besides the usual USB-B on the back which is for computers. However, I haven't seen you review it. I really wanted to hear your thoughts on it and its comparison to, say, SMSL DO400. Both of them are in the same price range, too. I'm looking for more of a reference-tuned desktop dac/amp for around $500 and, these past few months, I've been researching dac/amps for this purpose to the point that I've gotten truly tired of them even before having purchased one. As a result, I'm about to leave dac/amps for good. Haha! That's why I contacted you, brother. Considering the way I listen to music and my preference for a reference-tuned sound, do you think Fiio K9 AMK is a good choice for me compared to the DO400? Again, I greatly appreciate your thoughts, take, and expert opinion on this conundrum of mine.

Are the output power specs the same on ALL of the headphone jacks. In other words, do the balanced and unbalanced outputs put out the same amt of power?

Honestly it is really unclear. The Company discloses this and I also hear a difference in loudness. But they don't make it clear if it is truly balanced or just a different amplification stage. You will get a different sound from the balanced output, but the specs are ambigous about it.

Just out of interest how well will this handle my hd660s and also what's it like using iems ? As i have a pair of FiiO FH7

It should be great for both. Not a lot of noise for IEMs, and a fairly dynamic sound with s 660. While there are pricier options that can do better, it is one of the best entryl level solutions. You can also consider JDS Element III MK2 Boosted and JDS Atom 2 DAC + Atom 2 AMP if you're on a budget

Between the Aune S9c Pro and this one, which one would you recommend for the Hifiman HE1000SE? I bought the EF400 and I love the sound, but when gaming, the sound gets static, stutter and stops. I read it is because of USB latency, but I only have a USB-C to USB-C cable which I am using with it, I don't know if a USB tybe B would work better. Have you tried gaming using the EF400? I would rather buy a USB type B cable than a new AMP/DAC.

I have the EF400, and I am not experiencing those issues, but it likely is because of USB Delay. A different USB cable likely would not help with the situation, you can try researching the problem, trying to increase the USB sample size, buffer, but it might not help. If the issue lies with your PC, I am not sure how to help, most laptops and some motherboards have this issue. I do not have problems with S9C, but did not have with EF400 either... I would recommend JDS Labs Element III MK2 instead, because it has a driver that allows you to easily change buffer size, which can sort the issue

OOne thing that helps me a lot usually, is trying all USB ports on a PC / laptop. Some will usually have a better time with USB latency

@@AudiophileHeaven I fixed it by enabling a AMD Anti-lag. It helps with syncing game with audio and peripherals, and somehow it absolutely removed the stutter on the headphones, too. Thank you for your replies!
