Okay, so apparently i found some interesting theory about Rookie MV. As you guys can see, Irene is the one who controlled the Flower Guy (2:52). The Flower Guy's role is leading them (RV members) into chaos. Now, let's go back to Russian Roulette theory, and in RR, Irene won the game (she was being killed the most and kill the least, and the flintlock shoot her with a heart bullet). There's a picture in Russian Roulette teaser when the clock showing 2:05P.M. (clock arms pointing to 1 and 2, representing February 1st, the release date of Rookie). It means that the 'Russian Roulette' game that they're playing are the qualification round to pick the Puppet Master for Rookie. Irene was chosen because she won the game. You guys must be wondering "how did Irene won the RR game when she's the one being killed the most and kill the least?" What sport they're playing in RR? Tennis. Remember the 'love is game' lyric from the song? Love = 0 in Tennis. Irene kill the least, making her kill-count the nearest to 0, that's why she's the winner of the game.

Honestly SM is actually really smart. The way they set Red Velvet up for success. Usually when you think of girl groups there's trends and concepts that have been repeated over and over. You have your girl crush/bad ass group such as BlackPink and 2ne1, you have sexy concept groups such as AOA and EXID, you have innocent bright sweet girl groups such as GFriend and Twice and yes their concepts do change a little every comeback but not drastically or else it would put off their fanbase. With Red Velvet SM set it up beautifully so that Red Velvet can literally do any concept they want, they even make new concepts instead of following trends both with music and appearance.Happiness, Be Natural, Automatic, Ice Cream Cake, Dumb Dumb, One of these Nights, Russian Roulette, Rookie...they are all so different but RV can do all of them. I, as someone who knows and works with music and visual communication, want to state something! Please don't take me as a super crazy fan because I'm not. I've been interested in kpop for almost a year now but I'm not a fanatic. I like many things in music, cinema and arts. I'm just interested in the creative process and sometimes the product of it. I've been reading many of you guys comparing Red Velvet to other groups like TWICE or Black Pink. This is a non-sense. What SM has created with Red Velvet is something totally different from the other kpop idols. TWICE , BP etc have very nice songs and all these groups can be compared to each other, but not Red Velvet. RV are playing in another league. Kpop industry offers 3 main kinds of girl groups: the cute one (like TWICE), the cool one (like BP), the sexy one (like AOA). Think of any girl group that you know in kpop and you'll be able to place it in one of these categories (sometimes mixing two together). Red Velvet is something above these categories. SM has created a girl group that has many layers. So many of their fans think RV is the cutest thing (they are surely v cute, Irene especially is beautiful imo and Wendy must be the funniest and freshest girl in kpop, just watch her on Weekly Idol), other fans think they're cool (so many of you talk about their good/bad styling), of course the girls are very talented too, Seulgi and Wendy's voices are incredible (but all of them can sing), their coreographies are the hardest thing ever (please just compare Russian Roulette's to the TT's one). But this is just the FIRST LAYER, that is, the same layer on which many of you guys judge and compare them to the other girl groups. So some of you say "I prefer TWICE" or "Black Pink is the best gg" etc,. it's just something that depends on your taste. All girl groups in Kpop have good singers, dancers, cute faces, personality maybe, etc. You just won't be chosen for being a member of a girl group if you don't have these qualities. Then you just chose which girl group you like most based on their songs, on their style and on their talent. But what SM has created with RED VELVET is a girl group with a SECOND LAYER. And this second layer is the one that makes RV so interesting for people who are not fanatics of kpop. And it is the reason why RED VELVET is THE MOST AESTHETICALLY and MUSICALLY RELEVANT girl group in kpop outside KOREA. Their songs (especially since Ice Cream Cake) have something so different: perfectly cute, crazily childish and quite creepy (!) I mean guys do you see another group singing and dancing to Russian Roulette??? The MUSIC VIDEOS are the best way SM has expressed a mood, a color, a feeling for RV. Each one of their videos (a part from the Be Natural one which is very well done, the girls are very sexy but it's just a good 90's style video) has the strongest concept, the most crazy styling and the most disturbing mood ever. Rookie has the psychedelic vibe of Alice in Wonderland and Yellow Submarine (if you know the Beatles you know what I mean), in Russian Roulette, the pretty outfits and the pastel colors makes the killings of all the girls weirdly cute, One of these Nights is visually a dark poem, in Dumb Dumb they're dealing with the alienation of globalization, of being manifactured, etc, Ice Cream Cake video seems the dreamy prelude to a splatter horror movie in the Texas Desert. You watch a Black Pink video and you see very pretty girls with good voices and cool outfits, but their songs could be from an american group, their oufits seem taken from a Mango or Zara's shops windows here in Milan and their videos are very cool but it's just something very current, nothing new. They are beutiful and talented girls created as a group for common girls to identify themselves in them. They're not creating anything. They're cool but THERE'S NOT an idea, there's not a concept. Then you take a TWICE video: very well made, the girls are super cute, the coreography is easy to emulate and the song is as catchy as f***. But where's the new idea? What's the concept of the group a part from being extremely cute?? I'm not talking about the talent of all the girls of all the groups, I think they're all talented, and I really like BP and TWICE songs (I just could listen to Whistle and TT forever) but ALL THESE GROUPS are BIDIMENSIONAL (some of them are monodimensional!). RED VELVET is a 3D group. You can like or dislikes the other groups but if you dislike RED VELVET it's like you're only interested in cheesy pop songs (so you maybe say "I hate ROOKIE" and you're done with that) but you're missing the most intriguing part of the group, the GREAT CREATIVITY, the STRONGEST CONCEPT, the best VISUAL. BP is cool and current but in a few years you'll watch the Playing with Fire or Whistle videos and even if you'll still like them, you'll feel that they've aged badly in every way. I didn't know 2ne1 before so I watched their videos in 2016 and they really look and sound like not current at all but I'm sure when those videos came out everyone thought that they were very cool and the songs extremely cool. Today they look and sound tacky and bad copies of USA r&b videos from 10-5 years ago to me. Their old music and videos have just not aged well. Having said that I really like CL today eh. I can see in 10-20 years time some great music video director from USA or Europe creating a MV inspired by the RED VELVET's ones as the greatest expression in kpop, surely they won't be inspired by BP's Whistle video that could be easily a video made for Selena Gomez or Ariana Grande. RED VELVET is AGELESS because SM is not trying to make them current. SM is trying to create. And RED VELVET is the craziest and coolest creation in Kpop. Both aesthetically and musically. P.S. VERY IMPORTANT! Please guys, understand what I wrote, I'm not saying anything bad about the other ggs, I just don't care actually. I leave these feuds to children and teens. Every group in kpop is a project and has been created by their companies. Every member is talented and pretty so this comment of mine IS NOT AGAINST ANY GROUP. I'm just stating some facts analyzing the kpop phenomenon, a deeper view on these projects. Then you can enjoy your fave groups and hate the others, but this is not what I'm talking about at all in here, sorry. cheers guys

My first time watching this video and I'm blown away as usual. Power up brought me to RV and there's something about all their talent that shines through in each song. For me, Irene's powerful voice and line delivery kept the pre chorus fresh and kept the listener alert. Joy and Yerim definitely carried the energy for a catchy hook, and Seulgi is always someone to look forward too. Her lyrical stanzas brought me into their cute wonderland, followed by Wendy's kind energy and delivery. The repititions of the sounds and lyrics passing between them is what I think makes this song so iconic. I wanna hear every person in red velvet sing each others parts in songs and that's thanks to their talent and aesthetic. Overwhelming proud to be a new Revelub RV fan. I think people tend to say that rookie is not the best song because the song is UNIQUE to their ear. The producer of Rookie is a foreigner so it tends to put western and korean style in one song. When you listen to it, you can feel a korean and a touch of western on it. We are well advised that Red Velvet is such a unique group, they don't stay on the same concept(what I mean concept is the song itself not the music video). When you listen carefully to the song you will learn how amazing it is regardless of your preferrence. The vocal line uses a technique which cannot be done easily(even tho it's not a high note refer to Seulgi and Wendy's part) Joy's technique on her 2nd part deserves an applause it's good. Both Irene and Yeri proves that they can sing(all of us can sing but what I mean is that sing like an idol) Red Velvet is not Red Velvet when they'll show same concepts(song concepts) everytime. They're named as a group of weird and unpredictable concepts. So I salute RV stans who love them even tho they're so unpredictable. You truly are wonderful.
