Kevin and Donny! Thank you so so much for this new series of educational videos! Seriously awesome! I run a small local rescue and breeding business. I am FOREVER looking for good resources to educate and help people wanting to properly keep reptiles. These videos are the answer to my prayers! Clear, concise and actually useful information for people in the hobby. Living in a high mountain desert like Utah, with constantly fluctuating temps and horrible humidity, is not ideal for anything besides California kings and cornsnakes LOL. I can't even tell you how big of a deal you talking about the ambient temp in the room changing is! All of this is pure gold! You literally addressed about 70% of the mistakes that creates the rescue cases I get. I love you both so much for your work on this series! 🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍💜💜💜

Fantastic video content Kevin with great educational content and really so helpful for people that may have snakes but really don't know all the basics because they don't have enough experience to know these things and how to set things up to benefit each reptile !! Excellent advice on covering those screen or wire mesh tops with clear plastic !!! Big difference in maintaining the humidity also I've found move the water dish a little bit closer to the heat source so the heat can evaporate some of the water and covered with the plastic the evaporating water from the heat turns into humidity inside the enclosure but definitely never place belly heat under a water dish.

Excellent points regarding the securing of dome heaters, the coverage of the screen top to suit the humidity for the species being kept, and the use of heating in general. Too many KZfaq videos show the same setup whether it is a boa/python or a temperate colubrid, and that is unfortunate.

Great video. For my almost 5 year old female ball python I have 2 temperature probes set up in her terrarium with 1 in the heated end and 1 in the cooling end and both are connected to thermostats with 2 separate under tank heating mats. I found that when I kept the hot side at 90F she stopped eating and spent almost all of he time submerged in her water bowl on the cooler side at 80F. When I dropped the temperature on the hot side down to 86.5F she started eating again. I use the 2 under tank heat mats because it can get very cold here in Vancouver, BC and if I turn my furnace up her humidity level drops drastically within an hour. I also am using cypress mulch for her because it held the humidity level higher than the aspen bedding did. I found that the aspen bedding promoted mold growth so I had to clear it out every 2 weeks but the cypress mulch is good for 2 months without breaking down or any mold issues.

Im sure there are plenty of other videos on KZfaq but I'd be interested to hear your opinion on how often to change substrate or specific substrates for different species (currently I keep all my snakes on Cypress mulch) and what methods or product you use to clean the enclosures. I'm currently keeping: A False Water Cobra, a Coastal Carpet Python, a Dumerils Boa, an Albino Honduran Milk Snake, a Piebald Ball Python, an AZ Mountain Kingsnake, and a Savannah Monitor.

Always love these videos! My question is when it comes to ambient temperature in the cage and then surface temperature, over your heat mat for instance. You mentioned achieving the proper temps in the cage, but with your Tstat probe on the actual heat mat, being surface temperature, what is something you would set it at?

Great video! Thank you for making it bite size and not too overwhelming. Do you sell these items? Do you sell a beginners tank with the items you recommend all together? Do you have a place you recommend purchases from? Or are you an Amazon affiliate? You don't list a website for making purchases so I am unsure. I am interested in getting a snake as young as I can. What time of year are the babies available for purchase usually? Sorry for so many questions but I like how you explain everything. Many other youtubers that deal with snake hold you in high regard. This leads me to feel your company is one I can trust to get things from. Please keep up the great work! The more of these videos I watch and re-watch the more confident I become in knowing I can properly care for my first snake. I look forward to the next installment of the tank set up!

These are probably a silly questions but.... when I put a heating pad on the bottom of a glass tank ( x large exo terra) should I put something on the inside between the glass and the substrate , aspen bedding for corn Snake. And should the hide be on top of the heating pad or next to it. I do plan on having 2 hides.. and a lamp on top with lots of branches and foliage I’m hoping it will like to climb on. I did learn and appreciate that I should put the corn snake i get in a more confined place when we get it ( i was thinking that an adult would be easier to “handle’,than a young one especially for our 9 year old grandson who lives with us. Although this is my obsession he is very excited. Sorry TMI)
