Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins stars Henry Golding as Snake Eyes, a tenacious loner who is welcomed into an ancient Japanese clan called the Arashikage after saving the life of their heir apparent. If there's one 80's franchise that deserves a reintroduction in modern times, its GI Joe. We've got more than enough stuff on Transformers, that He Man Netflix show is coming, it's been eight years since GI Retaliation came out and no one liked it. Let this be the time for GI Joe to rise up again into relevance.

To anyone that doesn't know that this movie is a Hasbro reboot of the G.I Joe films like the Bumblebee movie is a reboot and has nothing to do with the Michael Bay Transformers franchise and so this movie ignores everything that happened in Rise of Cobra and Retaliations.

Well good for them anyways and I'm getting tired of Michael Bay's Transformers so nice to see Bumbleber as a soft reboot of Transformers and it's been a while since the last GI Joe came out so yeah I can see that they're going to reboot the whole thing. Who knows we will get a GI Joe/Transformers crossover movie that Paramount and Hasbro have been planning for years

Henry Golding is a great actor, and I am happy to see him in a big blockbuster movie, but I really feel like race swapping Snake Eyes ruins part of the whole fish out of water story that made the character more interesting. Like in G.I. Joe Renegades gave him such an interesting backstory with him being an outsider and how his rivalry with Storm Shadow developed from it.

The biggest problem here is that race swapping is now blasphemous for any race other than caucasian, even for voice acting. If that is the direction the world wants to go, then it needs to be equally applied across the full spectrum. Snake Eyes is not only Caucasian, he is blonde haired and blue eyed.

I kind of feel bad for Henry, people are criticizing the movie just because they changed the race of their favorite character and I don’t really that should matter for the movie... this movie takes place before he loses his voice and puts on his iconic mask. For those who's complaining about the mask and him speaking. The title of the movie is Snake Eyes : A G.I. Joe ORIGIN Story. It's the Origin story of the character on his training, how he got the mask and how he lost his voice

It is not Snake Eyes' origin story. It's a money grab by Hollywood. There are only two things remotely Snake Eyes about this movie, the name and the suit.

Looks good tho they total retconned from the previous movies changed race, hair, gave storm shadow a scar he talks as an adult in earlier movies he didn't talk since he was a little kid after his teachers murder. Interesting can't wait to see it

I think Hasbro/Paramount are doing a soft reboot of the GI Joe universe starting with this one so this has nothing to do with the previous GI Joe movies. Just like what they did to Bumblebee as a soft reboot of the Transformers movies

But Snake Eyes wasn't Asian - he was Caucasian with blond hair. That's one of the main reasons Storm Shadow was angry with his master's favoritism towards Snake Eyes and a large part of their rivalry. As a young, mixed heritage American, I loved that about this rivalry. I loved that even though Snake Eyes was out of his element training with the Arashikage that he was able to surpass their expectations. Storm Shadow was amazing, but his drive was different and caused his disfavor. Their rivalry causing Storm Shadow's decision to go to and defect from Cobra was legendary. His honor outweighed his rivalry, and that's why Storm Shadow was such an important character. Snake Eyes endures unimaginable injuries that permanently injure his vocal cords and scar his face, but his discipline endures and Storm Shadow respects him deeply still recognizing him as an adopted brother of the Arashikage ninja clan. Unfortunately, this is another example of white-bleaching where we remove roles from traditionally "white" characters to pander to the woke masses.
