I love that Emily usually notices color in the babies, but Ed usually notices differences in pattern.

I've always been fascinated by the differences in people's perception (or the order thereof) of things. 2 people, even 100 people can see the same stuff and not notice the same details in the same order. It's super cool and I love that we get to watch Ed & Emily's different perceptions like you were talking about
@Annie_Annie__

@@jvseventeen Absolutely same. I can look at, say, a photo, and I’ll notice a couple things first, but my kid and my husband will notice entirely different things first. It’s so interesting to me and how sometimes that seems to follow a pattern and sometimes it seems to be random. Like, if my kid and I are on a walk and he spots a cool rock that I missed, is it because he’s closer to the ground, is drawn to the color, is drawn to certain shapes? And I usually notice birds that he doesn’t. Is it because I like birds? Because of their sounds or shapes? It’s just fun to think about. Also, when it comes to the baby snakes, I’m with Emily and I’m all about the colors, lol.

On average, women are better at spotting differences in colour, and men are better at spotting contrasts. Men are also more likely to be colourblind.

15:10 Fun fact: the adorable noise that baby crocodilians make has a similar effect - full-term crocodilian eggs hatch more quickly if the baby can hear other babies calling. That sound also attracts the mother crocodilian to dig them back up.

Mine is going to be five soon but I’ve caught her “incubating eggs” blueberries, they were blueberries in a drawer. I let her pick out clip on earrings and she picked snakes. She’s put them in play dough and toy eggs so they hatch. And keeps her toy snakes and snake earrings in little enclosures with enrichment. I won’t let her give them water though

I've followed this channel for what feels like years (rarely ever comment) and, I don't know if you've already done this but, sometime in the future could we get a video showcasing all types of morphs (a video per species) and how these occured from a genetic or historical perspective? Ex: This gene reduces the amount of brown & yellow pigment in the skin which gives the snake (or baby) this color I know this might not be all that interesting / entertaining when compared to other content showcased here, but I think this suggestion still fits under the education focus you have. Just this past year I refreshed myself with some of my old Biology study from school and this suggestion has been floating around my head for months so I figured I might as well suggest now.
@art-eroflore
@art-eroflore 9 ай бұрын
They have an old video in the past that I think focuses on hognoses. You can also go to morphmarket and look at their morphepedia which lists the origin of genes (if known) and details on what they do. (a while back i usesd morphepedia to make a ball python guide which also mentions the types of pigments- melanin and carotenoids mainly- that are influencing the morphs) As a bio student myself I am super interested in the science side, and I've looked up various studies on google scholar, but there tends to be much less research about the genetics of commercially bred snakes. For example there are literally thousands of ball python morphs but the few studies mostly focus on just a few, like albino or spider complex (due to the problems with the latter).

If ed ever gets visited by some uber calm animal, some cultures believe these animals to be their loved ones reincarnated. A specific example is cardinals, or other birds. Sometimes it's insects like a moth or butterfly.

My condolences to Ed. That's hard losing family. Side note about the baby snakes that did not make it; I know that reptiles are one of the exceptions to being okay with inbreeding, but I have noticed in past videos that inbred clutches do seem to have a higher mortality rate and kink rate, so I can't help but wonder if there is something science/breeding has missed that actually makes inbreeding in snakes less viable. Just a thought.
@idiotically-everything
@idiotically-everything 9 ай бұрын
Snakes do suffer from adverse effects of inbreeding, but their tolerance to inbreeding is a lot better than that of mammals so ypu can get away with it a lot more You can see it in breeding two lavender hognoses to each other. Usually low success rate since all lavender hognoses came from one snake originally vs the higher success rate of breeding a visual lavender and a het lavender together
@ettinakitten5047
@ettinakitten5047 9 ай бұрын
They definitely still would have the "unmasking bad recessives" downside to inbreeding, since the whole point of inbreeding snakes is often unmasking *good* recessives (eg morphs) and the good and bad recessive genes are inherited and expressed along the same rules. They also presumably have the "accentuating extreme versions of polygenetic traits" potential downside (a human example of this is the Hapsburg chin) since that's what linebred traits are, but that's easily avoided by selective breeding away from those things. I think the only downside of inbreeding that wouldn't affect reptiles is probably the HLA immune markers (heterozygosity in the genes for those markers leads to a better immune system) which I think is mammal-specific.

I was wondering that too, multiple perfectly formed babies dying in the egg makes me think something’s up. The most obvious answer for those losses is inbreeding. But it’s possible Mr. Wilson’s age played a factor

I know it could just be coincidence, but if almost a quarter of the babies didn’t survive to hatch and Mr. Wilson was bred with his daughter, isn’t it possible Mr. Wilson has a bad recessive mutation he passed on to Priscilla?

It makes me laugh sometimes because some of your video reminds me of game of thrones/ house of the dragon 😂 those babies are Mr. Wilson’s children and grandchildren, and they are Priscilla’s children and siblings. AND They are Albinos! They are serving Targaryen realness better then any Targaryen we’ve seen on tv so far😂😂😂 If Priscilla starts going for her eggs like enomelet, legit could be a more interesting game of thrones episode 😂😂😂 Don’t know if that humors to dark for this comment section but it really cracked me up😂

Hi Emily and Ed, I've been watching your videos and I'm really impressed with the amount of care and knowledge you put into snake husbandry. Your snakes seem very well taken care of, and it's evident that you are passionate about their well-being.I have a question that's been on my mind, and I'm hoping you could shed some light on it. I'm curious about how snakes fare in confined breeding environments. To clarify, I'm not making any accusations, and the snakes in your videos look healthy and unstressed. My question is more of a general one: How can we tell if a snake is uncomfortable or stressed due to lack of space? Unlike dogs or other more expressive animals, snakes aren't as easy to read when it comes to their comfort levels.Are there any studies or guidelines you could point to that discuss how much space is "enough" for different species of snakes? I'm genuinely interested in learning more about this aspect of snake care. Thank you for your time, and keep up the great work!Best regards, Till

So sorry to hear about Ed's grandma, may she rest in peace. My condolences. The babies are awesome, though. I love how excited Emily gets over new baby smell.
