@@panzerkrieg3509 It was likely misinformation, they might have been told it was a good option by someone or a simple search. A lot of simple google searches include some false information hidden in correct information, and there are well credited documents that contain false information too.

Yeah, when I finally get my first snake, it'll be from a breeder this dedicated. I'm just going to get a king or a corn. Not sure which yet. Corn probably. But, I can't viably get an animal without knowing all there is to know first. So I'm taking my time.... time after time, I've done my sentence, but committed no crim.. wait got a bit off topic there.

I am one of those breeders. But I've never had a customer accept my offer to take the snake back for a period of time to make sure the snake is doing okay or to try and raise it back to health. It's very frustrating when owners tell you the snake isn't doing well but are not interested in letting me do anything about it...

@@WaltRBuck King snakes are fantastic but can have quite the attitude. Corns tend to be puppy dog tame. the care is really the same between them. but if you are jumpy or uneasy about getting bitten or stricken at I would suggest the corn for the simple fact that they are less likely to be grumpy.

@@kiroropupper3914 Cool, I'll remember that. I'm not afraid of being bitten or stricken or anything else from any animal I've had as a pet. In fact, with my cat (Another reason I have to properly prepare for the snake) we play rough. I let him be a cat. It keeps him in shape. I tend to believe his claws are probably dirtier than a snakes bite lol.

@@WaltRBuck you would actually be correct in that. Cat bites and scratches are nasty. They commonly get infected as cats carry a lot of bacteria, and some of that bacteria can cause tissue infection. Getting bitten on the hand is so bad that a study showed 1 in 3 had to be hospitalized from a cat bite, because the teeth inject the bacteria deep into the joints and tissues and it flourishes there.

They aren't intentionally bred to have the head wobble, they are just so popular people don't care about the head wobble. Breeders continue to breed them because they fly off their shelves despite their severe issues. They really should not be bred, its incredibly sad to watch one with a more severe wobble because they can't even strike their food. Some of them drown in their own water bowls because they flip over onto themselves. They basically have no balance. Watch Alex's video from GoHerping. Spiders, super black pastels, super cinnamon, and a few others all have the head wobble. Steer clear from them. The more we buy the the more they are produced. Normal ball pythons are stunning in and of themselves, but a beautiful morph that has no neurological issues is the piebald ball python ^-^

Took one bite and was immediately like "This is tuna..." Had the server try it and she immediately was like "Yeah, that tastes like tuna. I don't know why or how, but that's 100% tuna."

Tahani Ahmed happened to me too! we were talking about the best type of pets that an elderly person could keep and snake were brought up! so i kinda geeked out and started blurting out why in my opinion it was kinda difficult for an older person to enjoy the company of a little noodle and properly take care of it.. everyone was so surprised! they thought i had even previously owned a snake, in reality i just had watched too many of Emily’s videos😂

Derpy snakes make me laugh. My middle school science/English teacher had a derpy ball python named Hisser. More than once that snake attacked his coffee mug, despite that mug being way bigger than any food he was ever given. Always made us laugh

Well, usually 'special' refers to intellectual disabilities, whereas this is just a temporary vitamin deficiency. It's like if you called a sleep-deprived person who was acting funny 'special' - it doesn't make all that much sense.

Thanks just curious as I just started to hear about all of this and some of the "wobble" snakes I've seen are so sad to me as they are being breed just for a cool look with no care for the snakes health. I can't stand breeding animals for looks when the same genes cause alot of different health issues

My opinion from watching Olympus Reptiles is that it's not necessarily the spider gene itself but the bad breeding to isolate and perfect that gene. Spider morphs were notoriously inbred to create the perfect "look." That's how the wobble issue started. Matt has demonstrated that spider morphs, when bred responsibly with unrelated parents, don't wobble. I don't think we should ban spider morphs, I think the reptile community needs to crack down harder on bad breeding practices. Especially at reptile expos/cons. I've heard stories of people buying BPs at an expo, the breeder sexing the snake by popping it, and the customer going home with a BP with a broken spine. Maybe as a community, we can set a rule that related spider morphs cannot be paired.

That's what I'm wondering, or perhaps if they also fed worms, snails and whatever other kinds of insects garter snakes eat in the wild. Some people are a bit squeamish about feeding with mice, but with such a variety available to garter snakes I don't think that should be an issue?

It said she hadn't eaten in a couple weeks, which mirrors difficulty I've had with my own neurologically challenged garter :( but her issues are much worse (though no head wobble). When you feel poopy, you don't want to eat. Might take her time to eat again on her own whatever she does. My snake will just go weeks to months without eating with her sisters, and it has really stunted her growth. I think I will have to go to the vet next week and have her force fed.

HSheezy I hope your snake feels better, but follow all of your Vet’s advice and bring up some of the advice Emily says in her video. I am not an expert, hence the question.

I don't remember the channel (except that it had a lot of subscribers) but the way this one KZfaqr/breeder was dismissing it as no big deal made me rage. Of course he would say it's not a big deal when he was invested im breeding and selling them. Not exactly an impartial source...

@@OverdramaticAngel If it was Brian Barcyk, yeah, I wouldn't trust a single thing he says. Other breeders such as Olympus so have come out and shown several spiders on their collection, and the wobbles displayed are minor at best, and the snakes are thick too so they're definitely eating well. It's a complicated issue that there definitely needs to be more research into, especially if it turns out that a lot of the bad cases are a result of what that garter was suffering from, or something similar.

@@houseofwolvess There's always been debate around Spider ball pythons because the gene carries a neurological defect that affects the way the snake moves. Most often it manifests as the snake having a more difficult time keeping their head upright off the ground, with the specifics varying from snake to snake. Symptoms can be anything from a minor wobble (hence the name) when they lift their head off the floor, to the snake being completely incapable of controlling its movement if it's not sitting still (similar to this garter). However, that is an extreme case, and may possibly be due to another issue entirely as I said before, given that diet deficiencies can cause similar symptoms as seen with the garter in this video. The debate centers around the quality of the life for the Spider-ball, whether they are thriving or merely surviving because of the help of breeders and keepers, whether their symptoms cause them suffering, so on. A little while ago, the Spider gene was completely banned from presentation and sale at reptile shows in the UK, and this has stirred up the ant hill even more with the arguments around the gene. If you want to learn more, you can literally type "spider ball python" and you will find dozens of KZfaq videos from different people discussing the gene from their perspective - if you do, I would recommend watching several of them. There are a lot of different opinions and experiences out there, and it pays to hear all sides. The only person I'd tell you to steer clear from in that debate is Brian Barcyk, as he is definitely 100% money motivated and does a poor job hiding it XD

@Azure Ablepsia I know. :( It's so sad people will prioritize a pattern over an animal's well-being. Sure, maybe the wobble isn't bad on some (I'd argue _any_ amount is bad, personally) but with some it is, enough where they can end up doing damage to and even biting themselves. The videos I saw where one was missing his food (not alive) and smashing into his feeding container and even missing it but getting his teeth into himself. He didn't _realize_ he was biting himself, so he bit harder and attempted to frantically constrict thin air. (The you're man doing one of the videos I watched on it had one with only a moderately bad wobble, but it was bad enough, though it was not a snake he bought. He accepted caring for him from someone he knew, I don't remember exactly why that person couldn't take care of him anymore- the detail that he hadn't bought the python and certainly didn't intend to breed him, which mattered to me. From both an empathetic standpoint and a credibility one, as buying/breeding them means you absolutely cannot be unbiased. I think a lot of people might have dismissed that young man because of his age but he was obviously very intelligent, very well spoken and very knowledgeable. I believe he popped up in my recommendations under a video Emily did on the subject and I reeeally hoped I remembered to save it...)
