Snakey Chantey (Donkey Kong Country 2) sight-read by Tom Brier

Forgive a repeated gaffe at one point; the sheet music submitted to me had a misspelled accidental which caused Tom to mis-read what the chord should be, nearly every time he got to that point. I should have inspected it more closely before giving him something that I didn't score myself.
初見で『スーパードンキーコング2』の「ラトリーに大へんしん」を弾く。
The original composer was David Wise.
The subtitle of Donkey Kong Country 2 was "Diddy's Kong Quest".

@@xenalin1 For example see a recent video I posted of Ryan Wishner playing the California Quick Step from 1849. Also appropriate would be tunes from operas. Although today we think of opera as so very high-brow, at the time opera was the main form of entertainment (every old west town has an opera house, you'll notice). Lots of old Scottish songs, Irish songs, etc. There are scores of 19th-century American songs you can find at the Library of Congress web site.

It's so frustrating that a car accident had to happen to Tom when there are so many jerks out there who are perfectly healthy. If only we could turn back time and ensure Tom's safety and health. I sincerely hope he gets better; it might be naive to expect he'll ever be back to 100% but a man this great who has brought so much happiness to others does not deserve to suffer.

To call this sight reading is like saying a nasa engineer is just "playing with a calculator" The sheet music doesn't have any of the flourishes, changing styles in repeated melodies, or the absolutely thundering left hand going back and forth. He sees a few simple notes and in less than the blink of an eye, hes got an incredible partly improvised arrangement that I'm positive nobody else could repeat by sight reading it

Ben Nelson Yeah, one of these days I need to transcribe it. It is a fun tune.
@jesperkragh
@jesperkragh 9 жыл бұрын
Keeper1st You properly know, but there are a few transcriptions out there already. Eg. www.videogamepianist.com/sheetmusic/banjo-kazooie_intro.pdf. However, I think it is necessary to make quite a lot of changes and corrections, so it might be essayer just to start from scratch. (You should also ask Tom politely to make a second play through of the Mario Theme as a tango. His version is one of the best on KZfaq, despite the few mistakes.)
@wheelmanmitch
@wheelmanmitch 9 жыл бұрын
Jesper Kragh Lots of transcriptions out there aren't really suited for a breezy sight-read. Ron's been showing me all these little things that help make the music easier to read (and formal)! Are you asking for the main theme when you start Banjo-Kazooie? Or Spiral Mountain? I'm itching to make an arrangement of Spiral Mountain, but I might do the main theme too!
@Keeper1st
@Keeper1st 9 жыл бұрын
wheelmanmitch Yeah, nearly every existing game-music transcription I find is decipherable, but not readable. I started an arrangement of Spiral Mountain a few years ago, but was adding a lot to it, making the right hand mimic the banjo while still playing the melody as well. It'd probably be too overwhelming for most people, and those who can play it like that (like Tom) would anyway, so I need to go back and just make a simpler score.
@Keeper1st
@Keeper1st 9 жыл бұрын
Jesper Kragh As for the Mario Theme, Martin Spitznagel's version is rather good too, and oft-overlooked even though it's on my channel: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ibCDoq2dtri2Zqc.html
