I'm glad you guys are taking some of these turtles. They can actually take over ponds and kill every fish and even baby ducks that try to swim. They don't have many predators and need to be controlled but hardly anyone hunts them anymore.

This is JoAnns husband, The way I do my lines is: I use 50lb test line(never lost one yet) but you can use whatever line you want. Take plastic tent stakes, tie one end off in the little hole in the stake, pound the stake into the ground. Tie your hook onto a heavy steel leader, bait and thow it out. I am from Pa. also, I attach a trapping tag to the tent stake, that way it can be checked without having to pull your line in.

All the anti hunters and trappers that are uneducated commenting on this video is unebleiveable, keep it up guys great conservationist!
@blazebrdar64929 жыл бұрын
PAoutdoorhunters I'm not anti hunter but do it sustainably. Snapping turtles take forever to mature, almost none of them ever make it to maturity, they have low breeding frequencies and so many get hit by cars or boats that their populations are struggling as it is. Taking mature snapping turtles and killing them is a huge blow to the snapping turtle population. Hunting for meat is fine but why do we need to hunt them to extinction? For fun? Is turtle meat really that necessary a part of your diet? Don't you want your children or even yourself to be able to enjoy them in the future?
@blackpheonix19719 жыл бұрын
Hunters are not conservationists. Most of you idiots vote right wing which support fracking, more drilling, more forest cuts for roads. GOP scores anti-environmentalism. You never help without killing. i never heard ONE hunting organization helping where they don't hunt. One of my friend been spreadin the truth about hunting organizations. abcnews.go.com/WN/sex-tourism/story?id=10288468 They're a bunch of sex slave sellers and pedophile freaks. And no ABC news is not liberal nor conservative. It takes no side. Killing is not conservation, killing is extermination. Or you mind wasting is conservation you dipshit.

Blaze Brdar I understand the concern about the populations of the turtles but they are fine due to very little pressure on the species. Very few people harvest them, to just kill them is a shame though.

This is about hunting. They're not torturing turtles. These turtles will be eaten and/or used in some other way, as the hunter sees fit. If you don't like turtle hunting being legal then try to change the law and then do as you claim hunters do, completely disregard the consequences of your actions. If they are not hunted to control their populations they will breed and overpopulate the area and damage the habitat for other wild animals leading to exactly what you claim you are against, the harming of more animals.

Christopher Schuk what head that has to do with the fence that Turtles don't start meeting until they're at least five years of age there for when you take a turtle that's 25 lb that turtle is at least 20 years old. Due to the long process of their maturity it takes a very long time for populations to recover. I'm just like with fish the bigger the turtle the more eggs they produce what these morons are doing is decimating populations and in recent years we've seen a massive Decline and snapping turtles because these morons don't understand they can take their mothers food stamps and go to the store and get actual food instead of decimating Wildlife

The picture of the hunters holding the turtles by their tails was disturbing to me as if this is done to live Snapping Turtles it can damage their spines. Snappers are not endangered but for me hunting them just because you can is wrong. I like Snappers and prefer to feed them not hunt them.
@musicgroovin9 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I get tired of the laughing and small talk about how big they are and calling them monsters. If you enjoy ingesting mercury, they do contain high levels of mercury because they eat many fish also containing mercury, so the mercury levels are high. These great animals are known to live a long life, that is until it's abruptly taken away simply to satisfy a curious appetite that could just as easily be satisfied by eating something else. Oh, then back to the next "monster" getting hooked and more laughing and giggling while dragging them through the brush, eat, then repeat.
@joeodonnell86519 жыл бұрын
Its your right to choose not to eat them and feed them instead. I support your right to feel that way. Its also their right to hunt & eat them. No laws were broken during the trapping and or handling of them. As the video showed they ate the animals. So to say they hunted them "just because you can" isn't exactly accurate.
@joeodonnell86519 жыл бұрын
Steven Harp I don't know you and don't pretend to. Humans are complicated and I'm sure your a cool guy even though we don't agree on this topic. The turtles are not the healthiest that's for sure. As far as the "small talk" is concerned I often walk out to my garden pull a carrot out of the ground and proclaim "holy shit hun come look at this monster". I don't really see a difference since I see them both as an avenue to sustenance. Ending a life to extend your own is just that. Heart and brain or not. Just my opinion. Have a great day!

Try tying on string trimmer/weed eater line for a leader. It's extremely strong and very inexpensive. That's what I use and they absolutely cannot bite through it. You'll have to tie a good knot (I use a bowline) and then wrap the knot in electrical tape to keep it from untying.
