On March 8th, 2013, Snarky Puppy and a host of special guests convened at the Jefferson Center in Roanoke VA. The project was to record a series of live performances in audio and video that would bring attention and benefit to the ongoing work of the center. The Jefferson Center is a non-profit arts organization that is revitalizing a key neighborhood in Roanoke with the restoration of Jefferson High School and the renovation of the Shaftman Performance Hall. The hall brings world class music to the local community through the Music Lab, providing education and recording space for local children.
The Music Lab at Jefferson Center is working daily to pull from every social and economic class of the Roanoke community and create the next wave of real, human musicians. They host low cost or free after-school programs for any interested young people filled with visits by guest artists, private instrumental instruction, and recording training. Wafting out of the little studios and rehearsal rooms on the third floor of Jefferson Center, you can hear Afro-beat in Swahili, hip-hop in Liberian Kreyol, the blues coming from the guitar of a 13 year-old prodigy, and the undeniable sound of young musicians growing. It's a thing that needs to be supported at all costs across this country, and by purchasing this record, you've done it.
A portion of every sale will go to the Music Lab at Jefferson Center. For more info visit www.jeffcenter.org

I had the same reaction and I'm well into my sixties! I cried because I was so touched that there are young people still being taught MUSIC properly. The way Jayna takes it right up to the edge of her range - and not beyond (that would be screaming, not singing) - just floored me. And Gabriel's solo was pure old-soul stuff that floored me as well. Thank you so much Snarky Puppy!

Props to Snarky Puppy for making it a point to promote and support undiscovered young talent. There's just as much talent out there as there has ever been, it just needs to be nurtured properly. This group tries to do that. For that, they deserve some credit.

This performance, especially the climax part from 3:40 on, literally brings me to tears EVERY single time. It must be the marvolous mix between beautiful harmony and the pure happiness delivered by the young, awfully talented singer, aswell as pretty much everyone else from the band, who are clearly all loving, what they're doing! Music is so beautiful!

I've got no words to describe to myself what I've just heard. It's incredible. Jayna Brown, you're amazing! And so is Gabriel Morales. These kids are simply outstanding and brilliant musicians. But Jayna, your voice... is unlike anything else. Never heard anything like this coming out of a 12-year old. You're a true brilliant talent. Please pay attention, ladies and gentlemen, that this is an original song co-written by young Ms.Jayna Brown, too!
