This is one of those things teachers should have said to us during math class. Not "in case you want to be an engineer" or "if you have to count your change in store" but "if you want to be a sniper, do well in math". If I had that motivation I would love my math classes.

hey the Celts painted their faces and so did the scottish highlanders and they were badasses. Snipers for the most part are some of the biggest badasses out there

Ghillies are rarely used, if ever, for obvious reasons while deployed. 1) They pack like a sleeping bag, with a packing list that has zero room for a sleeping bag. 2) When worn, they feel like wearing a carpet, which doesn't work well 90% of the year taking temps into consideration. 3) You really don't need them anyway, since a veil will cover most of your needs if you're exceptionally concerned about concealment. 4) You work with other units often, so no need to stock out.

Wow a lot has changed. I was in class 6-92, in the old WW II barracks. They have probaly burned down by now! I heard you can buy 6' rolls of burlap from Ranger Joes at Benning for material. Thank God for Shoe GOO!!!

That makes sense, but if you keep in mind basic physics, it makes sense that paintball technically, and theoretically hurts more. This is because, if we assume air soft BBs and paintballs shoot at about the same rate, for the most part, then a paintball will hurt , more because it has more mass. Which will hurt more, an asteroid the size of a grain of sand, or one as big as button? The one weighing more will hurt more, as long as they move the same rate, as we can assume.

@MrAmbjorn Its a title that originally comes from Britain. It was for people who were able to shoot Snipes, which are tiny little birds that hide in the brush and are very fast and hard to hit, so if you could shoot it you were an expert marksman.

@madcow3095 yes but the vegetation is not permanent, it is only used temporarily. as the instructor stated, a sniper may move through 3-4 different types vegetation, that's why they use pipe cleaners to quickly tie and untie the vegetation as they move through different regions

I like the video. My only critique would be at the end when they show the sniper in position with ghillie. I think they should have started the scene with camera zoomed out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the camouflage and then zoomed/located sniper. I'm not sure if camera was remote or not but it seems like the sniper painted the camera man with his muzzle at the end of video as well...

Firdst time I saw this thing in Call of Duty Modern Warfare... mission is called 'all ghillied up' and 'one shoot, one kill'

@S2awtys because usually you snipe while lying down so only your back needs complete camo. a full body ghillie suit would also be a bit weighty and hot

Ah and another thing... The canadians also use the Macmillan tac. 50, which fires a 50 cal round. Was used to break the world record for the longest recorded sniper kill at 2430 m, made by Rob Furlong during operation Anaconda... My bad, i just remembered that Carlos Hathock holds the world record... 2432 m... He set it during the Vietnam War, and actually he was american, and he used one shot.

ArmA 2 is the closest it'll get to realism for video games.

Our infantry shoots at 35o yards in the army and 500 yards in the USMC, snipers train from 300-1000 yards, the 300 being urban combat specific. Our snipers are the best in the world, army pretty damn good. Marines, Seals, other SO units. Best on the planet. having said that ill give other countries their fair shake, they are also very good marksman.

the military also requires you to be an infantryman first for at least 2 yrs. all sniper are rifleman. you can be selected for snipers unless you do the infantry first. well thats at least how it is in the marines. tried out for sniper school made it but didnt want to continue and went back to my infantry unit. i like a lot of action and you dont get that as a sniper.

At 2.47 - If the camera would have initially filmed at a distance and then zeroed-in, I think many of us simply would not have seen that sniper at all. None the less impressive.

During WWII some of the most prolific snipers of the war were Russian women. Due to the massive battles at Kursk and Leningrad some had over 1000 kills by the end of the war.

@MrAmbjorn Not only sniper sounds cooler, it has actual roots. The "snipe" is a bird native to England, and it is a small bird at that. The bird itself had great vision, so it could spot you from a good distance away. To shoot, and kill this bird you had to be a expert marksman. Almost anyone who shot one of these birds was known as a "sniper".

Strange thing is, that someone was trying to make a bigfoot sighting here in my state (Washington, in the Western side of the state, im in the desert Eastern half), and when he walked across the road in a ghille suit a lady driving thought he was bigfoot and ran him over and killed him. . . really.

Airsoft is just like paintball, except the projectiles, instead of paintballs, are small plastic BBs. Therefore they dont leave marks, except for bruises, but not anything like a splatter, so you must go on the honor system! It's much cheaper, but the guns tend to break much faster.

@coffeetrc777 The .50 cal can take out helicopters with regular rounds and I know it isn't used exclusively for personnel. The .50 cal is usually used for long distances and to take out targets behind cover etc. Yes I get your point but I already knew that but oh never mind.
