as I watch the trimming process I'm thinking with a scanner, scan the piece before you cut into strips and make some decorative paper first.

I think your piece as a whole, (before you cut into strips) would have made a gorgeous journal cover! Fabric snippets always looked so intimidating to me, but you made it look so simple! Thank you!

Oh my goodness gracious Nik! I am trying to catch up on some of your videos and just found this one. I am interested in learning how to make these snippets but just had to pause you for a moment to share the thought that just popped into my head. Back in the dark ages my Mom first taught me to iron blouses, skirts, sheets...*sigh*. This was a chore I never liked. Yet here I am watching you iron something you won't even wear! Am I the only one who sees the irony? 😉

I don’t think you need to do anything in particular with snippets. They just are. If you make one and do the embellishments and take the time to put your heart into it, what a wonderful gift to give to a special friend. And, like Nik says, you can tie them on a package or anything else you may want to add something extra to.

Nik, I like your style - your eye for beauty, AND your relaxed, self deprecation and humour. Your videos are fun and approachable, Enjoyed spending some time with you and your art. For the life of me I cannot see the POINT of a snippet roll, but it works as art, and could be a lovely idea for a gift - or to wrap a gift - that is both stunning and inexpensive - in nearly everything but time! Apart from the Dreaded Dust, I think your ribbon would look great hanging on a wall, or as a picture frame, book mark, notebook cover, etc etc. Actually, if it's robust enough, could make a fantastic belt, or garment edging - though ... Washing. Mind you, up until the 1900's (ish) lace edgings were only ever tacked on petticoats and dresses, because they would be removed before garments were washed so that they could be washed separately. Should still be possible for special stuff, surely, even given the current lack of servants ? :) Fun to play with, but, oh yes, it could be a time suck.

I mostly play with paper. I often cut them into particular lengths, like two and three inches, and then use those “snippets” as a focal point on journal cards, pockets, in my journals! It is so fun! You have great suggestions also!

Letting you know that you sound exactly like I did self-sabotaging in every way until I learned to love myself, ROFLMAO, however, if you do not keep up with it with daily practice you can fall back into wondering how in the world self-sabotaging ends up happening to me so very consistently. Found out it is in the way we talk to ourselves in our minds and also out loud, that does that to us. Yeah, I know, WHO knew?? LOL Like you, I could make my frustrations sound funny and there is a secondary benefit to that as most people can relate to frustration but also do not make it sound near as funny. Speaking of FUN... love your punny shirt. I watched another snippet roll maker that layered the fabric to add more texture and depth to the snippets. For instance, she laid pieces of lace overtop the fabric she sewed with a machine down the length of the roll, in the middle to make the snippets stay attached to the base, then sewed with ivory thread down either side of the lace. Then began to add things pictures and words from the designer sheets she printed on some muslin fabric after resizing them on her silhouette and that is where she lost me, as I do not have a silhouette machine. She adheres the fabric to the fabric pictures and words with a zig-zag stitch and then embellished then with glitter fabric paint. " So stinkin cute" and not too frou-frou. Loved it. Love the simplicity and the authenticity of yours lol, as it looks ones women did back when wagon trains rolled updated for tremendous ease of doing it, love the look of yours, which for those women was not such a time suck as they did it one or three pieces at a time and put it away until they had more pieces to work with. Lord knows they had far more to do then we do as they had to go to the creek for water! Be that as it may, I truly do think your snippet roll is lovely. Have fun with the process and it does not seem as much of a time suck... IF you enjoy what you are doing it is not wasted time. Having said that, I have to get back to the project of reclaiming my house from crafting, so thank you for the reminder to be gentler to myself so I self-sabotage less. Back to praising myself for every little thing and remembering that everything happens in "the divine right order", even the time sucks are there to play a role in that. Thanks for the tip with the lightweight iron-on adhesive! I so enjoyed your video! Wrote below as you asked your viewers to if they identified with you. Oh, I so do. My life has not gone as planned, not even close as it blew up a few times. Make a new plan is all I can do and keep my sanity or what passes for it. Just love you, Nik. Thanks again!

Oh my gosh, what a thing of beauty . I made one a few months ago and it was all lace and beads etc , the only thing I had to wrap it on was a very small wooden rolling pin, was about 5inches long . It’s lovely . I like your style though. I’ll be watching for more fro Australia .

Wonderful? I love the way you made strips from the rectangle allowing colours and patterns to randomly reappear. Donna knotted up your thread for sure.
