In this video we look at the stun-run-through shot. I explain how the spin on the cue ball works, and some examples of when to play it.

Such an important shot to learn, not only because it's a vital skill to have in break building, but also because it helps you learn how to accurately strike the cue ball consistently which is also vital for accurate cue ball control. As usual, this is one of the most clear and detailed, yet simple to understand, videos about this I've seen.

Had two frames of snooker and one game of billiards last night and won them all, throughout the evening I kept in mind the tips from the video I watched last night - the things professionals don't do I think, just slowed things down generally, although I did get a bit carried away during a break and didn't chalk me cue on a shot. It went in, but I took a deep breath and then had another couple of balls. There was a real difference, even though I've been steadily progressing - last night things felt great! Big thanks to you for these vids, they're really well done.

Excellent video like always Steve and thank you for the upload. Like the black and white cue ball gives the eye a perfect view on how the ball acts on certain shots. Do you recommend using a black and white cue ball in practice on regular basis. Will I get use to it and then have a hard time when I get back to a white cue ball?

Hi again mate, your vids are invaulable--my snooker has improved more in the last two months than the last 6 years. I made my second quarter century last night (27) but I wanted to ask you at what level do you think I should start learning how to play with and use side? It's something that scares me a bit, as the cause of much of my bad curing is putting unwanted side on the white. Thankfully now that is happening less and less, and my long potting has improved from about 1 in 10 to 3 in 10. I also cleared up from yellow to pink last night, first time I've managed that. Thanks! 🙂

Hi Steve, firstly I think your tutorials are the best I’ve ever seen and I’ve been playing for nearly sixty years! I would like to ask you how you would approach an aspect of snooker which I find difficult. I.e how to hold a coloured spot with the cue ball? does it involve a technique similar to a stun-run through? I would be interested to hear your thoughts on this. best wishes with you’re teaching methods they are inspirational and I’m certain anyone who has seen them has been benefitted immensely. Thank you Alex Reynolds

It's a very basic video. Totally depends on the distance between the White and object ball, how much you want it to run through. It's not really anything like as simple as I say in this video. It's right for the example shots, but the position on the white will vary from shot to shot.

Hi Steve. My name's Dave Merry and some time ago I posted on another of your videos asking if you could you put together a tutorial showing how to split the reds when high on the black (instead of low on the black as shown in the tutorial in question). Personally I consider that a much harder shot so would welcome any advice you can offer. Thanks in advance. 👍

Steve I was wondering how many years have you been playing and how often have you practiced to get to your level? I still struggle to pot even 3 balls in a row after practicing roughly once a week for over 2 years
@BartonSnooker

I have been playing seriously since January 2011. At first I would play around 3 times a week for 2-3 hours each time. One of those sessions would be on my own, and the other two sessions would be playing someone.

@@Ferrarimenf50 yes it was a spare white ball I had. So I did black marker. I'm thinking of applying a thin layer of lacquer to it to stop it rubbing the marker off. I just hope it doesn't make the ball react too differently. But it's worth a try

Why not hit the cue ball in the center? Wouldn't it also create some roll against the cloth?
@BartonSnooker
@BartonSnooker 4 жыл бұрын
Hi. Yes! There is not really one place on the cue-ball to play a stun-run-through. It all depends on the pace and how far apart the two balls are.
@onelovitHD
@onelovitHD 5 жыл бұрын
stun runtrought when straighter shot and drag shot when not ?
@BartonSnooker
@BartonSnooker 5 жыл бұрын
It all depends on the shot. In my first example in this video, I couldn't play a drag shot and hit it hard enough for the object ball to reach the pocket. So by playing drag, I could get the white where I want, but you'd be risking the red not reaching he pocket. The distance between the two balls is also important. In the second example, if you played a drag shot over that distance, any tiny cueing error, and you'd miss the pot. It is generally easier to keep the white on-line by playing a stun-run-through.

There isn't just one place to play a stun run through. It all depends on the distance between the cue ball and the object ball. It's all about judging the exact amount of spin left on the cue ball based on the distance. I may do a follow up video on this 👍
