Just wanted to say that I really appreciate how honest you are with your struggles, and what did and did not work for you. This isn't a showcase for your talent (though you are obviously talented, to be sure); it's an actual teaching platform for you, and I just find that really refreshing. So thank you from Kansas City, Kansas, and please take care. 🤙

Omg I only to play a few months ago and I really struggled to find out what I was doing wrong, since I had coaches, as well as your and the rest of the internets tips to draw from. I had several epiphanies which all brought me closer to consistent and "good" cue action, and you listed three of them in the beginning of this video. I'll add the fourth as well, in case someone else is struggling with this. What I did was, I tightened my shoulder blades intentionally, to keep my shoulder still, but I was doing it down on the shot. Also, I only straightened my right (hind) leg when I was down. I started to focus on doing as many of these movements before I went down on the shot and that helped me immensely.

at 4:43 I noticed that your cue is adjusted one second later. So you start off aiming wrong then as you play the shot most of the time you adjust the shot. is this deliberate?

The first issue u address is sth I noticed recently as well. I think it related to my tiredness as well. As a not fit person, playing frames n walking will make me compensate my stance by making it wider to support my body weight. Hence when games goes long my other foot will go front even more to make it wider.

I find it slightly odd what he meant by that. Because he’s right that the people who constantly fiddle their techniques almost never get any better. But the more you can eliminate differences between one shot and the next the easier things get. Like how I put my left foot in a different position every time made me inconsistent. As did leaning differently, twitching my bridge arm and snatching at the shot. So scientifically looking at your technique won’t help but nor will cueing up differently every time

Alex Higgins had the worse stance, the biggest shake movements possible. His head was constantly moving, his hands never settling in place, his whole body screamed frustration. Yet it worked for him. You can't copy him, it's impossible. If you are so used to playing in a certain stance, that is how you play. This is only useful to players starting. Like learning guitar. Always play with your left hand as straight as possible on the fretbroad. My hand bends left. I can't change that. Same as holding the cue. I can't and don't wish to change that now.
