After Valentines Day it warmed up enough to start snowing, with more snow to come. We've had enough snow that we're starting to need to push back banks when we plow and so the videos are going to get more interesting if more big storms come through.
Most of this video is in real time.

Great Video, brought back a lot of memories. I plowed back in the late 60's when we had some major snowstorms. I had to use front end loaders and dump trucks to haul snow away so I'd have room for more snow. I finally had to quit as I got car sick every time I used the plow--not unusual as several of my competitors experienced the same thing.

Beautiful property. I do some snowplowing myself and have a Kubota. I just bought a plow for the loader. Got sick of hitting things solid with the bucket. Some of the driveways i blow the snow away first then drop the plow for the last 6 inches. This cuts back on running out of places to put the snow. Nice machine and video.

Good video Eric! Having a wheel frozen is bad. I often have similar issues when I come back home in deep snow. Sometime, the snow seems to melt on the disk brakes and it gives me a great surprise the next time I desperately try to brake. Thanks for sharing this video!

Hi Eric. Less down force on your plow will let the tractor go straight when the plow is angled. Your taking too much weight off the front axle. But you might have figured that out by now. I live in the Lake Erie snow belt. We average 200+ inches of snow a year. I use a 2015 Polaris Ranger 800 6x6. Best plow machine I've ever owned. Nice set up for removing snow. Great video!
@MinnesotaEric
@MinnesotaEric 4 жыл бұрын
Ranger6x6, there is no downforce. The plow floats while the loader remains stationary well above the ground. The plow deflects when there is enough resistance and the snow is slippery enough deflect the whole tractor because of the leverage the plow has hanging a good six feet out in front of the front tires of the tractor. I don't use chains because of the miles and miles of blacktop roads I traveled when I was doing this route. At any-rate, this is my favorite plowing video that I've made. Thanks for watching.

North Dakota got a bunch of snow last year and I own a few properties, all connecting roads etc. I had over 70 hours of moving snow last year, dont get me wrong I like moving snow but by the end I was very happy to take that snow blower OFF! I live in NE Minn and I'm starting to run out of room for the snow. I just have a blade, not a blower like that so I'm just praying we don't get that big hockey or basketball tournament blizzard we're known for. Just a hint. Angle the blade a little less and it won't push the tractor around as much. Still, once the bank gets as high as the blade things start closing in. Even the MNDOT trucks are running into this on open roads.

Hi Eric, will you remind us what snow implements you are using please? Plow, blower, and 3rd function specifically. The plow looks like a floating unit. Any comments on it would be appreciated. Enjoyable video as always! Steve.
@MinnesotaEric
@MinnesotaEric 6 жыл бұрын
Steve, sure. The tractor itself is a 2014 Kioti NX6010 HST. All four wheels are ballasted with a total of 1250 pounds of RimGuard. The loader looks to be made by Quike, a German company, and painted orange. Normal stuff: cable actuated, non-piloted valve with float. The plow is a either an 8' or 9' (I cannot remember) Hiniker Big Ox. The plow has great articulation, but isn't that great at back-dragging and is a sum-of-a-beehive to mount on my loader's SSQA. The blower is a CAT 1 & 2 McKee 720, a 30" high, eight foot wide, twin 13" augers with a 27" fan. McKee invented the modern two-stage blower and they made this same blower line for a bunch of different people or were copied by a bunch of other people. In their day the McKees were the high volume industrial blower-which is likely why so many of them have survived so long. The third function is my own. At its core is an Eaton electric over hydro double-acting valve, solid state relays, Delphi metri-weather connectors and hard lines, using a John Deere joystick handle. It looks factory.

leo D I, My tractor does have float but I do not use float when plowing. The plow itself articulates up and down, as well as the outer ends up and down taking all the stress off of the loader.

Eric, I'm slightly Jealous! I used my 1970 Sears Suburban tractor yesterday on 14inches of snow and I'm beat. 48yrs old, needs repairs yearly and the occasional break down makes life rough. That old tractor beats me up these days, manual lift for both blades, reaching down to shift the transmission, and not having a cab. I don't need a machine as big as yours but having the option for a cab and hydraulic lift sure would be nice! I was looking into the cost of hiring a plow vs. buying a compact tractor with a cab, although there is a vast difference I came to the conclusion the tractor would benefit me more year round. two years of hiring a plow would probably get me a nice down payment on a used compact tractor with cab and loader.
@MinnesotaEric
@MinnesotaEric 6 жыл бұрын
Bill, off camera the packing gave way on one of my loader cyclinders-but I hadn't noticed because it is winter and not collecting dust and grit. Anyway, as a result of the leak, my hydro tank got low and I noticed when I didn't have reverse the first time I pushed the pedal at the end of my driveway in this video. Running the blower backward up the hill, I ran out of fliuid to keep backing up and you see me cycle the plow side to side and lower my loader to force more fluid into the transmission so I could keep going. Off-camera, I filled the tank back up when I got back to the top of the driveway, lubed all my zerks and off I went. If you get a tractor with a cab, get a factory cab model. Good luck and let us know what you're thinking.

I just got a tractor and have found the plowing is not the best. Front tires fight for traction. Rear mount snow blower can blow though. Maybe if the heavy snowblower wasn't on the back it may be different. I am still learning though.
@MinnesotaEric
@MinnesotaEric Жыл бұрын
Front tire chains will keep the tractor going straight. plowing is always faster than snow blowing until the snow is so deep or there is no place left to push the snow (those cute, narrow rural driveways). Anyway, I've got a tire chain video. Most people do not need forestry chains on their tractor, but I have cute, narrow driveways with nowhere to push, so I do use forestry chains on my front tires. There will be a plowing video coming out on my channel in the next couple of weeks, where you see how the chains work. The tire chain video. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fcdgarh_r7zNoJ8.html

Awesome video Eric, thanks for posting this. With the front blade, does it float side to side (for angling) or are you controlling that in the cab. It looks like it wants to angle on its own?
@MinnesotaEric
@MinnesotaEric 3 жыл бұрын
Simon, yes from inside the cab I'm controlling two large hydraulic cylinders that windrow the plow side to side. The plow also has a blow-off valve so If I hit something the plow can windrow to avoid damage, and then the blade itself can trip to save itself from damage. The floating of the blade up and down while on the ground is designed into the plow and that happens without my input. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@MinnesotaEric
@MinnesotaEric 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the tractor headlights can be on at the same time as the front and rear cab lights. I don’t typically run the tractor’s own headlights because the light they generate is blocked by the loader in front unless the loader is carried low. Typically, tractor lights are set up on multiple circuits, and in my tractor there are switches for the front and rear cab lights, as well as another switch for the side cab lights. Then there are the tractor lights and headlights mounted on a stalk on the steering column.
