Bruce, Thank you for all your videos!! I have a Troy-Bilt 26" 2 stage snowblower this will be the 3rd season only but still had the same exact problem. Reverse 1 was going forward, Reverse 2 was working fine. Followed your lead and all is normal again. Again, Thank You. John

Good job Bruce. When I use to repair typewriters, we used alcohol to clean the rubber platinum (paper roller) and the rollers under it and on the holder bail. Paper transfers a film to them causing the paper to slip. The same thing with windshield wipers. Also alcohol will clean the metal friction plate. and make film free. The idea of the needle grease gun nozzle would be great in greasing the shift shaft and the tight areas on the unit.

Telemarketers...lol. I always ask them for their home number so I can call them at my convenience. Funny...they never give it to me. Then I inform them...I'm on the no call list and they are in violation of the provisions of said NO CALL list and to give me their terminal number, supervisors name and name of the company they work for....They always seem to get disconnected...odd isn't it? lol Another great fix!! Hapy New Year my Northern Friend! Zip~

You did not mention cleaning the rubber friction wheel of deposits. Good video though. Any thoughts about putting a very fine film of belt dressing on the friction wheel? Would that help it to grip?
@BrucesShop3 жыл бұрын
I have not done that good idea.
@sonnyc382611 ай бұрын
so if you have idea where to get that small gear that the big one runs into thatd be helpful and a bushing that keeps the rod in place.

Great videos How long should those rubber drive wheels last. I have older generic snowblower. Last 15 years I've had to replace that drive wheel 3 times I've been told they should last forever Other wheel that the belts are on looks good
@BrucesShop3 жыл бұрын
I think each snowblower is different as the pressure on the wheel is also different. Sorry I am not much help. I have seen older blowers with the original drive wheel.
@not2fast4u2c8 жыл бұрын
Could you lightly sand the aluminium disc or would that make the rubber wheel wear down faster ?
@BrucesShop8 жыл бұрын

Did you know that the friction plate assembly can come loose.Found the large copper plated nut (Jam L-nut)holding the friction wheel support bracket to the friction wheel disc assembly at the bottom of the belly pan.The machine was making a lot of rattleling noise and was almost unresponsible.I managed to screw the nut back on before any damage was done to the snowblower. I wonder why the manufacturer didn't put any tread locker paste on it during manufacture because I think vibration caused the nut to come loose.

Cub Cadet is exactly the same . Brake cleaner does a faster job. Also check your cable adjustment inside the spring. There is usually a turn buckle inside the big spring

You put the bottom back on incorrectly. The lower end of the cover gets inserted in the slots of the housing, then tip it up into the closed position. I, too, am curious if there is a way to make the friction disc have "more friction" to help prevent slipping. I've cleaned the disc off and tightened the lever cable, but the snow blower still doesn't have much drive power.
@BrucesShop8 жыл бұрын
+Will Morton Did you tighten the cable at shown at the end of the video. That puts a bit more pressure on the disc. Yes a realize now that the cover wasn't clipped.

most cheap snowblowers have these cheap friction wheel rubber drives that must grip the friction disc or they won't move, especially in heavy wet snow. The friction wheel has to be replaced because the rubber is coming apart. The rubber on the friction wheel has to be pliable able to grip securely the smooth surface of the disc which the engines spins once the motor is running. The disc needs to be cleaned of the rubber residue, and scuffed with some emery cloth, and then the new friction wheel adjusted so it can grip when you need to move the heavy machine into the wet heavy snow at the end of your driveway.

I have the same blower and my problem is that the 80 thoot gear turn with all the friction disk and everthing but the shaft did not turn so its does not engage the wheel. I dont see how the gear should be turning the shaft? I can move the gear frelly to left and right... what is the problem?
@BrucesShop4 жыл бұрын
Can you adjust the wheel to get closer to the friction disk. there is an adjustment on on of the cables.

My brother would put the speed lever into fastest and to control the speed by the go lever, which is wrong. I get his point but it's not built that way and that's why he got all that stuff marks on the plate.
