@@Pirustae Fahrenheit has more gradations so Celsius "catches" it (before passing it) on the way down at 40 below zero. A scale of zero being the freezing point of water and 100 being the body temperature of humans would have been nice.

I just realized this tai lung from kung fu panda was a snow leopard. It all makes sense now wide chest, grayish fur coat, huge fluffy tails.

Here's two other facts: 1) Despite their name, Snow Leopards are more of a sister relative to tigers than to leopards. 2) Unlike other big cats, like lions and tigers, Snow Leopards cannot roar ever, due to lacking a specific larynx formation.

I think there’s some debate around the second fact! Something to do with, based on whether they can REALLY roar or not, whether they should be classified as “big cats” or “small cats”... I can’t remember the details off the top of my head but yeah, that’s a thing. Taxonomy is weird. Edit: ok, just looked it up-snow leopards cannot in fact roar, but their classification was recently changed in 2017 to group them with the “big cats” instead of felidae for other reasons (basically, scientists were willing to make an exception because of the snow leopards’ close relation with the Panthera genus). The more you know!

@A. Stab cheetahs aren’t big cats, though! They’re grouped with the small cats, precisely for the reason you mentioned (and a few others).

@@lynxaway Snow leopards can't roar because they have evolved in areas where only one hearing their roars would be their prey. As for being classified big cats, Arabian leopard which is half the size of snow leopard is called a big cat.

Had 2 at the big cat rescue I worked at(mostly Bengal tigers) so beautiful, and one was nice enough I was able to pet some,yes they are as soft as they look 😀

I absolutely adore Felines, they’re so graceful and beautiful yet immense and menacing. Leopards are right up there on my list of felines and I absolutely adore the way they look and carry themselves. Beautiful creatures. Snow leopards have been my favorite creatures since I was a little child.
