Hi, thank you for these snow peak videos as it helped alot with purchasing. How's the solo fire pit in windy condition? Keep up the good work!
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 2 жыл бұрын
I have not tried to cook on the solo in a strong wind (we did have some breeze in the video) but I suspect the distance between fire and grate would adversely impact the performance. I do think it would burn a fire just fine though.

Just want to point out the Takibi grill plate is not actually stainless, but is chrome plated. It's considerably less durable than stainless steel and does not retain heat well.
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 2 жыл бұрын
You are correct. There was an earlier comment on this and it is a discrepancy on the Snow Peak website. The 1/2 is listed as stainless and the full grate is listed as chrome steel on the item page but on the kit page material is listed as stainless. Thanks for pointing this out as helpful to the viewers. I will say that over a few years I have not had any problem with my grate but some have said that over time and if not dried (I guess) they have experienced some rusting.

All of the cooking surfaces that I show in the video fit into the cooking bridge for the Large Pack And Carry Firepit. The 1/2 size also fit the Double BBQ Box and the Takibi Solo. I do not have the new XL fire pit and am not sure what the cooking bridge is for that, or it there is one at this point.

with regards to the big griddle pan, when you say “burn off the seasoning” that comes with the pan, what do you mean? is the seasoning not safe to cook on? I don’t understand!
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 Жыл бұрын
That comes from the Snow Peak instructions. I likely named it incorrectly as I assume they mean that you heat it initially to remove whatever they put on to keep it from rusting in transit.
@aafgahfah
@aafgahfah Жыл бұрын
@@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 that’s helpful. in the u.k., the instructions we get are all in japanese! At least, that’s the way with the tarps. I’m not sure i even checked the grill when i got it. I just took it camping for the first time and used it over 2 gas burners. To be honest, I wasn’t impressed with it in this context: the areas over the flames got a lot hotter than the rest of it. At those very very high prices, I think it is much wiser to buy a cooking surface from a specialist, or even just a basic griddle from a supermarket. something thicker with better heat distribution. It might be good on the barbecue though, or over the fire, as the heat source would be much more widely spread.

@@aafgahfah You are totally right, these pans are designed to fit into their fire pit cooking bridges and have been designed for the broad, even heat of a fire in the pit below, in that environment they excel. When using over a stove (home or camp) you will most surely see hot spots in carbon steel and cast iron cookware due to the distribution properties (carbon being a bit quicker) but for home stove use I normally use a stainless clad griddle and for camping stove an aluminum or cast iron griddle (cast iron over a bit lower flame but allow it to heat up for a good 10 minutes or so. If using this griddle over a stove I would suggest dropping the heat and giving it 5 minutes or so to warm up. Once cooking I tend to move the food around the griddle.

Hi - so I came upon this review because I wanted to learn about the half grill and half pan. I noticed you say that the full grill for the large Takibi is stainless - it is not. It is chrome-plated steel, which is really a disappointment. Hard to clean, eventually rusts. That is specifically why I am considering the half-grill, given it IS stainless. Really surprised Snow Peak made the larger grill out of this cheaper material. But you should let your viewers know what it really is.

Thanks for checking it out and the comment. It appears that you are correct. When I bought the fire pit I bought the kit-Snow Peak's website lists materials for the kit as stainless steel. When you search just the grill plate itself it does say chrome coated steel. I will reach out to them but thanks for pointing this out. Just for information I have not had any issues with rust on my grate as of yet.

Actually there are two versions. The stainless steel version is twice more expensive but worth it. I’m in Japan so maybe they only offer it here…

Unfortunately, no. And that it odd, given people have complained in the reviews about rust, etc.

I have the large pack and carry with grill bridge and grill. Didnt know about these additional accessories. What do you find more useful, the large griddle or the combo small grill and small griddle? Also, do you have the charcoal plate?
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 2 жыл бұрын
That is a hard one to answer. They are all great surfaces but it really depends on how many you are cooking for normally. When I am out with a group the large griddle and grill grate are the go to items, and the grill grate of course supports fry pans, kettles etc. For two people the small combo works really well if you wanted to do bacon and eggs while heating up water for coffee etc. I don't often do those at the same time though as coffee comes first! I know that doesn't answer your question directly but for two people I would carry the smaller stuff to save some weight but in reality if you have the large set anyway you could buy a griddle that covered 1/2 of the grill grate and have essentially the same thing. I had the small 1/2 grill grate already from my single BBQ Box so the 1/2 griddle completes the set up for my Takibi Solo.

@@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 Thanks. Have you used the charcoal bed plate?
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 2 жыл бұрын
@@apleparulo3958 I have it and have used it once or twice. Normally if I am using charcoal when camping I am using a dedicated charcoal cooker like the BBQ Box or I am doing dutch oven cooking. The plate seemed to work just fine though. My only complaint with it is the weight-being cast iron it is pretty heavy so I don't keep it in the carry bag at all times.
