Join me on an epic overnight trip in to the heart of Tasmania's wild central plateau. In this video I hike all day through snow to reach a cosy cabin located on the fringe of Lake Meston, Walls of Jerusalem National Park. The next day I set off again through snow to find Grail falls, which I had seen photographs of and knew would be a stunning site to visit.

Great content better than gold. I am a Tasmanian living on the mainland for 30 years and always dreamt of walking through the walls of Jerusalem but now I am too old and unfit so thank you for letting me see such beauty. You have inspired me to encourage my kids to venture on such a journey You films Rob are truly fabulous😊

Ahhh Rob, you just visited my most favourite place in Tasmania, lost count how many times I've been in there now. There are some hidden Gems in there. Good to see the old Meston hut, built by Dick Reed still putting on a glorious show. You presented it very nicely too. And great comments regarding the up keep our our precious huts 🛖 We always say if you can carry it in you can carry it back out ! Love the falls too, great footage. You would have read a few of my posts in the log book ha ha ! Might just play that game of noughts n crosses next time in in there, happy trails mate, Late.

Back in 1989 myself and 6 army friends packed for 14 day all weather bush walk, the weather didn't let us down and turned it up for us (lol) we started at Dove lake and went to the walls of Jerusalem then onto Lake Sinclair, it took us 14 days as at some points we used compasses & maps as there were no designated tracks, we did it in early January, which for some part was clear weather when we got to the Walls of Jerusalem the weather went shit and it snowed and we stayed in that very hut you were in for 2 days, the weather cleared up and we continued, it was the best bush walk I'd ever been on in Tassie.

Great photography as usual and in awesome conditions . I have many fond memories of walking these same areas through the 1980s while living in Sheffield. Lake Meston Hut via Lake Adelaide or via Lake Myrtle and Lake Bill. Myrtle was very burnt out during the 80s and had lost its reported beauty. My last walk in 1989 was a sort of farewell before we set off on a trip around Australia and new adventures. I went up past Chapters Lake to Junction Lake ( the reverse of your walk). There was a group of local farmers from Mole Ck who were in the hut at Junction ( I presume it is gone because you didn’t film it). They were great company and shared both stories and evening nips of whiskey. My memory is that they said the Meston Hut was built by local cattlemen. Also lots of camping trips to Blue Peaks or Lake Ball as fishing was a major objective. Anyway I prattle on. On Mr Youd I think he is trying to relive an era which has long past in this area. Im not sure country NSW boys can be described as “city wankers” also I like my shiny new jacket and it is superior to the oiled japara we wore with heavy leather boots lathered with dubbin. I spent several months in 1979 in Lorrina having ridden a pusbike from Sydney though the Snowy Mts in winter in the company of my kelpie Hagar. At the time there was no electricity in the valley and one telephone. The ‘hippies’ had found Lorinna and lived generally happily alongside the locals. Many traditional skills were in use , curing meats, snaring wallaby, shingle splitting etc. One old local lived high up the valley with his similarly elderly sister(Sadly I forget their names). As a young man he was a trapper and took pack horses (up the Forth Valley I believe) into Pelion for periods of 6 weeks. He was an icon in Lorinna at the time. Anyway I prattle more. Thanks for reviving my memories and for the great trips to places out of reach to me.

Brilliant as always Rob! God's country, spent a lot of time in the Meston and Junction lake in the 80's and 90's. Great fishing lakes. I gather the Junction hut no longer exists? Ha, I spent a few nights in Meston Hut. Was one of my favourite places to visit in the 90s and 00s. Never met any ghosts with a ballpoint though. Meston and Junction Lake cabins were built by Dick Reed. Nice bush joinery in both. Thanks for the video. I’m not so old I’ve ruled out visiting these spots again. Hopefully I won’t have to do it posthumously, like Arthur!

Keep up the outstanding vlogs Robbie. I truely look forward to each one. Just a side note, im currently in geelong getting more damn cancer cut out, and in the unit my wife is staying in, is a shiny coffee table book titled 'huts of the high country'. It listed at least 100 huts across NSW,VIC & Tassie. Had the gps etc and a page or so write up /history etc. Well worth a look. Once again lad, well done and keep up the good work.👍
