I interviewed the woman that owns the pie store about 7 years ago. Very nice woman. A movie was made about the place.

John Wayne had a ranch near Springerville. He would be in a parade there every year.

John use to come to town and stay at the Rode Inn and play poker. If you go there, you'll see lots of pictures and paintings, of John.

Yeah? The John Wayne I knew allowed himself to be in a film watching his sun set upon the South China Sea. When I had to watch it rise from that same sea, I also carried actual bullets to kill in self defense.

I was driving from Colorado to Az years ago, I stopped for dinner in Socorro, then headed west and drove right into a blizzard. I could barely see and stopped for the night in Pietown. Had to sleep in my car, man it was cold!

If you get to the Eastern part of Oklahoma, there's a place called Robber's Cave state park. It's an old hideout for Frank and Jesse James, amongst other neer do wells of that era. You'll never believe anywhere in Oklahoma looks like that.

I remember passing that Wigwam Motel in Hollbrook way back in 1978 on our way to Chicago. Ironically the old classic cars and petrified logs are now worth more than the Motel itself.

We live outside of Springerville and often take a quick trip to Pie Town just to get one of the wonderful pies! Yum!! The best within a 500-mile radius!

I took that 180 up from 10 through the petrified forest beautiful ride. I’m camped below Mt. Whitney in California now. Stay warm!

Love Pie Town. But sad, Pie Town Pies closed down due to COVID and lack of customers. Hope they come back soon. Love their pies.

I get a kick how you say every place is just "so beautiful" even though some would think the opposite. ( personally I need more trees, red rock canyons, cliffs, etc, but I do LOVE me some cactus 🌵....Helps me keep an open mind...This will be my first road trip with Ya. Hope you can put out a video everyday. Sleep well and be safe though that slushy storm. Talk soon! P.s. you will find a lot more "OPEN" this summer. I'm just now watching last summer's "road trip" and with so much closed and that funky old wildfire smoke it's kind of sad. I just watched the episode when you went to Old Faithful, and those crowds!

Just discovered your channel when videos from your time in Quartsite, parents used to go there when they had their RV. You're leaving AZ so soon, you'll miss the lavender festival on Concho which isn't far from Holbrook. Red Rock Farm is where the festival is in June, that is when they harvest their lavender fields. The aroma of lavender is heavenly. They also have food and wine tasting.

You gave us the idea to travel 60 across NM and we too stopped at Pie Town. They said they made 16,000 pies last year Awesome pies, small but awesome. We also hit the Billy the kid museum at your suggestion and no one should miss that. Have a safe trip and come visit us here in Oklahoma and boondock at our place and we have 30A hookup. I heard that “Pie-o-neer” in Pietown closed, in part due to COVID. It was a favorite stop for me, but I guess I’ll try the gathering place now.

Don't know why utube should me this but my mother which is in her late 80s grew up in Pietown. My grandparents left in the middle 70s. I have alot of memories in that place.
